Summary
Rozanov follows, sitting up and shifting closer until Shane can feel the warmth of him at his back. He kisses the back of Shane’s shoulder, soft and casual. “You are okay? You feel good?”
Shane turns over his shoulder with a frown, finding Rozanov looking… worried? “What? I’m fine.”
“Is okay if you are not,” Rozanov says, “Sometimes after sex, some people need…”
Shane scoffs, trying to fake the state of unaffected nonchalance that Rozanov seems to exist in effortlessly. “What, you’re asking if I want to cuddle?” he says, “You’re saying you’d stay here and—?”
“If that’s what you want, sure.”Shane is fine, but maybe he can still ask for something he wants anyway.

Summary
Ilya’s still learning what Shane likes and needs, observing him quietly because Shane’s not so forthcoming with what he wants unless he’s certain it’s what he’s supposed to want. But it’s not until Shane reaches back and grabs Ilya’s hip to pull him closer, pressing their bodies together and taking some of Ilya’s weight, that he realises Shane’s been studying Ilya the same way.
“I’m trying to take care of you.”
“Why?” Ilya says, instead of something safer.
Shane twists over his shoulder to frown at him. “Because I want to? Because you’re tired and sad and not feeling well?”
“Oh.” Ilya pulls his bottom lip through his teeth. “But I…”
“I think maybe we both fucked up tonight?” Shane says tentatively.
“No, is not your fault.” Ilya rubs a hand over Shane’s shoulder and then kisses it, wet and soft. “You’re good.”
Shane hums like he’s not convinced. He turns and drapes his arms over Ilya’s shoulders, still pressed close. “After this, will you…”
“Yes,” Ilya says, his mind sharpening attentively, “Tell me what you need.”Or: They communicate just a little bit better and let themselves be just a little more vulnerable, both with each other and their people.

The room goes quiet immediately, all faces turning to Shane in shock.
Hayden's the first to react, scrambling up from his stall, eyes wide. "Shane? What's going on?"
"I just wanted to see if any of you were willing to talk? So quiet on the ice today. I thought you'd have things to say to me, all things considered." Shane sweeps his gaze over his former team, uses his disappointed-Captain-voice and feels a smidge of smugness when it clearly hits them as it always has. "So say them to my fucking face, not behind my back."

“It’s Robby,” Dana says – no question mark, no flair.
The heat blooms behind his ears. It's absurd, the way his body betrays him; he's fifteen at the church picnic again, caught looking at the pastor’s son and at a hot dish in equal horror. He swallows. The door sighs open, then shut.
Dana doesn’t let Dennis hide behind small talk.
Dennis can count chevrons and recite Psalms and pass every safeguarding module the hospital can throw at him, but none of it changes the truth: he and Robby are not peers.
