Summary
Shane's life has been upended in the aftermath of his departure from the Voyageurs. Signing with the Centaurs should have calmed his anxiety and assuaged his fears, but he's still struggling with just how thoroughly his life has changed. Having to navigate a new team and new management for the first time in over a decade makes everything so much worse. Luckily for him, the Centaurs are committed to making him feel as safe and welcomed as they can.

The reminder of the Major’s death, the kindly old beta who saw him for him, brought tears to his eyes, and he desperately hoped that the smoke would hide it.
“... Okay. Who do I give it to?”
“It’s quite a few years ahead of schedule, and quite frankly I’m not even sure if it’s going to work, but Boothroyd always spoke highly of you and you are one of the very few TSS workers still remaining. I’ve spoken to R, the only survivor with seniority over you, and she is quite adamant to remain in her current position with your approval... Which leaves you”.
M held out a pen.
“Quartermaster”.Or, “I don’t just have one alpha”. Q grinned, bloody and feral. “I have nine. They’re called the double-0 program; perhaps you’ve heard of them?”

Bond, entirely aware that he’s committed a cardinal sin of tailing and made eye contact with his target, is glancing with forced nonchalance around the flounce-filled upscale Picadilly tea room when he sees a familiar set of shoulders. Thin, sloped, swaddled in a bottle-greed cardigan. A nest of inky-black hair that looks more like the pelt of a wild animal than a coif favoured by one of Six’s highest-paid staff. Dreamy, cream-coloured skin.
Bond steps out of the line for the till, leaving his quarry behind, and puts his hand on Q’s shoulder. Leaning down on the opposite side, he whispers: “Play along,” in Q’s ear. Then he ducks in to press a kiss to his neck. He smells of verbena and printer toner, sweet and sour.

How long has it been since Rafael woke up on that exact bed, stripped down to just undershirt, pants and socks? There was a change of clothes on the bed next to him, a bright orange sundress that Rafael promptly threw under the rug – also orange – and tried to forget about. At least the rug is soft, so soft in fact he had to stop himself from asking where his captors bought it. They might actually answer by buying him another one, and the room doesn’t have enough space for a second rug. There’s just a bed, an empty wardrobe and a small desk with a chair. No mirrors – nothing that Rafael can break and use as a weapon. Just a lot of pillows, blankets and throws. Everything soft, completely harmless.
Could Rafael have imagined some months ago, when taking up a case against a cult that he’d end up here?___
