“I love you, Itoshi Sae,” Shidou managed between pecks and licks and whatever else he was doing with his mouth to make Sae squirm like a rat in a trap. “I love you, so you’re stuck with me. In sickness and health, and all that shit.”
“We aren’t married, dumba—”
Shidou’s large hands framed the sides of Sae’s face, and Sae felt heat swirl into his cheeks at the sudden proximity and the intensity of Shidou’s eyes on him. “You will be okay, because you’re Itoshi Sae. I’m not going anywhere, even if you try to run me off by burning the place down—ow!”
Shidou’s thumb, whilst sweetly caressing his lover’s face, had gotten too close to the jaws of death and was bitten. “I was confessing my eternal love to you!”
“You’re lying on me right now, and there wasn’t a second I felt I couldn’t breathe.”
Only then did Shidou realize their position. His entire body burned when he suddenly remembered throwing himself at Sae, and before he could scramble off or stammer his way through an apology, Sae slapped his hands over his boyfriend’s mouth and wrapped both legs around his hips to hold him in place. “No. I like it.”
Because Shidou would never hurt him, or berate him, or treat him like a prisoner in his own home. Because Shidou threatened to harm those who hurt Sae. Because Shidou felt safe and warm. Because Shidou loved him.
“... I love you, too, demon.”

They sat there for a moment, side by side on the bench, the silence comfortable. Bachira could feel the warmth of Isagi's shoulder against his, could see the way his breathing had finally evened out, the way the tension had drained from his body.
He loved him. He loved him so much it was ridiculous. He loved him in the morning when his hair was a mess and he hadn't had his tea yet. He loved him on the field when he moved like he was born to be there. He loved him in rare moments like this where he trusted Bachira with the parts of himself he kept hidden from everyone else.
He wanted to tell him. Wanted to say the words that had been building in his chest for months, years, since the first time he saw Isagi play and thought 'there you are, there's the person I've been waiting for'. He wanted to take Isagi's face in his hands and tell him that he was brilliant, that he was beautiful, that he was everything.
But he didn't.
Because he knows himself, and he knows Isagi.
And Bachira would wait. Gladly. He would wait forever if he had to, because Isagi was worth it.

“You, lukewarm,” Sae juts his chin out at Hugo. “How can you be a father if you’re okay with mediocrity?”
“Second place isn’t mediocrity, it’s ensuring someone else takes the pressure of best and keeps the other players at bay—”
Shidou waves a hand, “Yeah, yeah. We all heard your shitty speech. Second place is just first place for losers.”
“I can be second best. Loki is more than enough as a parent, and I’m okay with being an addition that boosts him as the favorite while I take care of the rest.”
A beat.
“Wow. You are about to teach your kids some fucked up dynamics,” Shidou says.
Hugo now lay crumpled in a heap, wounded by his own lackluster parenting.

The room went completely silent.
Julian stared in horror at the mess he had just created.
Hugo stared down at his suit, then slowly looked up.
Recognition flashed instantly across his face.
“…You.”
