Summary
“I don’t understand.” Shaking his head, Castiel tries to make sense out of Sam’s words, “You defeated Chuck. You got your freedom back. That was what Dean was fighting for the whole time, why would he just throw that away, Sam? What happened?”
“What happened?!” For the first time, Sam turns his eyes away from the road and his voice rises, suddenly laced with fury, “Man, you fucking died! What else do you think would mess him up so badly?!”
---
Coming back from the Empty after a whole year, Castiel discovers that the Bunker is not the home of the Winchesters anymore. Quickly the hunters who are residing connect him to Sam and Sam doesn't hesitate to bring Castiel to Dean, telling him some very unexpected things during their way. Now all Castiel can hope for is that Dean is able to forgive him.

Summary
He watches Sam’s finger point to the written words, “Dean still hardly talks,”.
A few beats of silence pass—nothing out of the ordinary, at this point.
“...Is this what’s happening?” Sam asks gently, implementing that tone of voice that always seems to remind Dean with a heart clenched in nostalgia that his brother is not a little boy anymore, but rather is now a grown man with an impressive emotional maturity.
(TLDR: Dean Winchester and selective mutism: told throughout different stages of his life now that it has come back in full-force yet again after losing Cas to the Empty. Angst, hurt/comfort, and most importantly: happy ending.)

Summary
Now that Chuck is gone and Cas is back, they can finally just live their lives. Dean is still trying to figure out what that means for him and if he can trust Cas to stay this time. He’s also trying to figure out where Cas is getting the random assortment of objects he keeps pulling out of his sleeve. He always seems to have exactly what Dean needs. Or maybe the truth is that Cas is exactly what Dean needs.
--------------------------------
Cas flicks his hand in a motion that Dean finds familiar, the same one that always produces his angel blade. But instead of the silvery-white gleam of his signature weapon, a little book of matches falls into his palm. He hands it off to Dean. It’s from a strip club in St. Louis, judging by the mirrored silhouettes of two curvaceous women and the address printed on it.
“Got something to tell me?” Dean chuckles.
“Yes. I agree you’re getting too old for digging up graves. Although I assume you were asking where I got the matches. I’m not going to tell you.”
Dean gapes at him. “What? Why?”
“Because the expression on your face is hilarious,” Cas says, and saunters off toward the car.

A list of things Cas has been forced to taste: duct tape, raw hamburger, aspirin, breath mints, and his own blood. Way, way too much of his own blood.

Summary
He feels it when they’re in the car on beautiful days: miles and miles of road ahead, sun shining through the rolled down windows, a well-worn cassette in the tapedeck; songs Castiel has heard a hundred times over paired with the Impala’s rumbling engine over the highway. Sometimes, in moments like these, Dean will look over and capture Castiel’s attention the way only he can. Completely and utterly; the shape of his smile, eyes so jarringly green and so beautiful Castiel aches with it. And then, there it is: heavy and hard, like a crowbar to his stomach, an unnamed pain making him want to fold in half, and Castiel feels it lighting up inside Dean like a flare.

Summary
Dean rolls over, stretching a hand over to the other side of the bed.
Cold.
He heads down the hallway and into the kitchen, expecting Cas to be sitting there with coffee, smiling at him in that soft way.
But it’s empty.
He checks the war room. Observatory. Even doubles back to the room Cas used to call his. Garage. He calls six times before he bangs open the door to Sam’s room.
“Cas is gone,” Dean says bluntly.
Sam lowers his gun once he sees it’s Dean, rubbing at his eyes. “Okay, but...” He blinks. “Isn’t that kind of what he does?”
“He hasn’t answered any of my calls,” Dean growls. “And this time, it’s—” he cuts off, wishing he could snatch the words back.
Sam tilts his head.
“It’s... what, Dean?”
Dean is silent, looking down at the floor.
“Oh.”
Dean swallows.“Oh,” Sam says again.

“Are you even the real Cas?” Dean snaps.
Cas slurps up a long slice of green pepper. “Yes and no.”
Motherfucker, Dean mutters under his breath. “Can you at least explain what the whole history-channel beheading was?”
Cas taps his chopsticks together. “Pass the chow mein, please.”

Summary
Jack comes over to see Cas squinting intensely at a card in his hand.
“It’s for Father’s Day,” he announces, showing it to Jack like it’s a case file. “Apparently fathers have their own day of celebration. There aren’t even any requirements for them to be celebrated on this day. And,” he leans forward, “it’s not the only kind of day like this. There’s a mother’s day, too.”

Summary
A tiny, sick part of Dean wants to follow along with Cas's confession, recite it simultaneously. He's got it memorized. Classic time loop bit, right? He bets Cas would stop talking too quickly, though. Maybe he could get away with it for one line. "I love you. Jinx. You owe me a beer."
It's November 5th and the record is skipping. Dean starts noticing.

Summary
At the breakfast table, Jack enthuses about the special limited edition Christmas version of that cookie cereal he always eats—which, as far as Dean can tell, is the exact same as the regular version, only with red and green sprinkles substituting the usual brown specks that represent chocolate chips, and it costs a few cents extra.
Jack’s head pops up as he looks Dean right in the eye and says, blithely, mouth full of cereal, “It’s Christmas Eve.”
Dean frowns. “No it ain’t.”
Sam shoots Dean a look of pure pity. “Yeah, Dean, it is.”
Cas just squints.
