Summary
Instead of Azkaban, Draco Malfoy is to be isolated in an unknown forest for a total of ten years. Every month, a new Auror is stationed in the cabin, ostensibly to keep an eye on him. It’s now Harry’s turn to be the Auror on duty.
Harry has expectations on how his month will go, how weak Malfoy would be after six years away from civilisation, the pity Harry would feel for him. They might even settle into something friendly-like.
Except, Harry should have realised that it was Malfoy, and that things never went to plan when Malfoy was involved.

Maybe he was pissed that Barnes was withholding the apology he knew damn well he deserved on a day where nothing else was going right, a day where he desperately needed that goddamn apology, some acknowledgment that he’d done the right thing. Maybe he was wondering how far he could push the man before he finally snapped and beat the brakes off him and it would be okay, like, he was apathetic at this point to his own existence; if Barnes just obliterated everything he was with a punch to the skull that would be fine.
Maybe it was the fact someone was touching him for longer than two seconds in passing in an elevator: the way his skin was tingling and starved for contact because this happening twice in a six-hour span of time was unprecedented and he was pathetic for being into it and he hadn’t slept with anybody in a year and a half and his body was kind of shaking, actually, pinned between Barnes and the table.
Whatever it was, something possessed John Walker to open his mouth and very thinly go, “I don’t know, man. Right now, you kind of look like you wish I was.”

He knew, obviously, that he would come back someday, he just hadn't expected it to happen at the RECNY.
And he hadn't expected him to accidentally overdose, hadn't expected all the unhealed scars all over his body, the limp when he walked, the hollow cheeks or the worryingly dark eyebags.
And Tom? Well, personally, he's not sure what he expected.
Probably not to see Gregory laugh and kiss a man across the room.
