Another good divergence on how Sam’s addiction is handled. Fuck, I love soft big brother Dean and this hits every nail on the head. This also healed something in me.

“Cas! Cas, please! Please, answer me! Cas!”
Castiel ignores Dean for several minutes, but then Dean gives him an opening that might help him complete his mission, so he goes to investigate. What he finds is a very bloody, nearly dead Sam and a frantic Dean trying to stop the bleeding. Dean tells him where the injuries came from, and Castiel quickly becomes confused. It doesn't make sense, but Dean tries to explain it, and slowly... Castiel begins to understand.

A suicidal Sam story that’s written so beautiful and portrays depression so well. Also, the bonus of Season 4!Dean being a good brother to Sam heals something inside my heart.
The way how Dean makes the physical fight analogy to help Cas understand Sam’s depression was so well done, and felt on so many levels.

Fluffy sickfic goodness. The weight of grief hangs over the boys and yet they have to wrestle with the fact that their father wasn’t always right. Thankfully, Bobby’s there to help them through that.
I love how caring Dean is in this fic. What a softie. And poor Sam, wrestling with who he is and who he thinks he might become.

Summary
The Frayed 'verse is canon-divergent after the end of season 5. When he's trapped for centuries with two pissed off archangels and a younger brother he can't always protect, in a space where he can never be sure of what's real and what's not, coming back from Hell is really rough on Sam. After he finally finds his way out, alone and frightened, and makes his way back to Dean, Sam has to deal with hallucinations, lifetimes of guilt and trauma, and a whole host of sensory issues. The world is too loud too bright too rough too fast too much, and for Sam, just existing is a whole new struggle. But Dean is there, and they do what they can to make it work.
And thanks to my amazing beta, tarotgal, who always helps me figure out where I'm going in this 'verse. It wouldn't be what it is without you.
(This 'verse is still a work in progress.)

This series feels like a warm hug. It’s the ups and downs of recovery, and how hard it can be on both the abused and the caretaker. Sam and Dean are both just trying their best in the wake of Lucifer’s Cage relentlessly tearing through Sam’s psyche, and their love for each other is very much present.
Read this when you just want to curl up one evening and enjoy some hurt/comfort.

Summary
Sam and Dean seek solitude miles from civilisation, far from pursuing hunters and the FBI. As Sam's visions become more frequent and new abilities rise to the surface, there's nothing Dean won't do to keep his brother safe.
But there's something in the woods, and it's waiting for Sam.
There is nothing Dean won't do to keep him safe.

Good lord, what a twist. Had my jaw on the floor. It makes me ache and think about all the “what ifs” of this timeline.
I love the “darker” Dean featured here, and the highlight on Sam’s powers. I can always use more Sam powers. Not only that, but we’re not entirely sure who’s crazy and who we can rely on. Is it Sam, or Dean?
The atmosphere was built up so well. I read and write a lot of dark things, but this has managed to make me feel spooked in a way I haven’t felt in a long time.

Loved this so much. Breaks your heart then slowly stitches it back together. Dean insisting that Sam isn’t a monster for having an addiction and accepting this part of Sam. Accepting his powers finally.
This, THIS—grabs the Supernatural writers by the throat—is how you handle writing an addiction! You don’t insinuate that the person who has it is a monster, and you don’t tell them they need to hide a part of themselves in order to be loved.
Out of all the problems I have with how Sam was treated in the show, his demon blood addiction is number one. Reading this was so healing to me. Dean actually being a good brother here was amazing. Not only that, but Sam keeps his powers! Yay, bodily autonomy for Sam Winchester!

Summary
"Everyone knew the number one unspoken—and sometimes not-so-unspoken—rule of siblinghood: You could do and say anything you wanted to your own brother or sister without restraint, and all would be well. However, if anyone else so much as breathed wrong in the direction of that same sibling, there would be blood.
Everyone knew this rule except, apparently, angels."
Dean doesn't like the way Sam is treated when he finally meets his angelic heroes. Making Sam feel like an outcast for trying to do the right thing is cruel to begin with, but if Dean wants Sam to be honest about his cravings, he needs to protect Sam from being beat over the head with his failure. Thankfully, Dean has never had a problem opening his big mouth. S04E07 Mid-Episode Alteration.

Dean actually being a good brother for once during season four and sticking up for Sam. Love this person’s writing style. Sam’s self-deprecative passivity and Dean’s spark for familial justice is perfected here.

The prose this author is capable of whipping together is actually incredible. Sam’s mental state is so warbled yet so vividly descriptive with the series of images presented. It’s such a perfect, almost stream-of-conscious-like rhythm of how depression is. Sam thinks he’s not worth saving, but Dean believes otherwise, and continues to believe it for the both of them.

"Hey. Hey, look at me, Sam." Nate said softly, "You did everything you could. It was enough."
On a freezing night when Sam was eighteen, he crouched in an alleyway a block away from the orphanage, smoking. The air was biting cold, fog clawing its way up his sleeves. His fingers were numb and stiff, but he chain-smoked three cigarettes in a row, staring blankly at the ashes dusting his shoes. His thirteen-year-old brother was asleep in one of the windows behind him, a fresh scar still marking his lip

Roller coaster of emotions all bundled up in a sweet, brotherly package. The voice and descriptive language is well placed. Sam’s character is thoroughly examined here and fills in some of the holes that Uncharted 4 and Lost Legacy left out due to them not being in his perspective. Nathan and Sam are such wonderful characters and this translation does them justice.

Summary
The ache in his chest pulls at him, in a way that feels suffocating as Peter closes his eyes and tries hard not to think of how Harry had looked at him in the seconds before he–
Not died– he’s alive, Miles brought him back but it’s different now, worse than it had been when he was in “Europe” for a treatment plan that neither he nor MJ knew about.
Now, Peter knows exactly where Harry is and what his days look like, knows the full extent of his injuries and the lack of brain activity that if Norman Obsorn were a gentler man, might have let Harry go.
Peter exhales, hating himself for thinking that way. There was a chance, small as it was, that Harry could wake up again– Peter refused to let go of that small hope. If Norman Osborn could hold on to it, Peter could too.

Summary
John doesn’t even flinch when Father Garcia flicks his cigarette butt into the grass, crushes it beneath his heel, and then points the barrel of his shotgun right between his eyes.
Maybe John is afraid, buried deep beneath the haze of exhaustion. Maybe later when his battered head stops feeling like it's been stuffed with cotton and his ears stop buzzing like flies drawn to a rotting corpse, he’ll look back and wonder if he should have run while he had the chance to.
Instead, he almost laughs, a deep, hollow, and painfully empty thing that sounds too close to a sob. He almost laughs because after the month he’s had, a near stranger pointing a gun at his forehead barely scratches the bottom of the list of the worst dangers he’s been subjected to.
In which, surviving is the easy part. Living is the hard part.

Yet another great fic from StoneSage. Weaving both Miles and Peter’s themes, responsibilities, and emotions until they’re one. Peter helping Miles out with his new form (new form? nuform? eh? eh?) of venom energy and in return, Miles helping Peter with his new spider limbs. I also really like the touch of Miles’ easy acceptance of Peter’s new arms gets Peter a bit more comfortable with them. As if Peter was looking for that “go ahead” to begin with.
