“Harry…” Louis’ voice catches in his throat, thick with tears threatening to fall out, so he coughs to clear it before trying again. “Harry is Liam’s best man?”
“You didn’t know?”
Harry is standing at the entrance of the garage, mouth slightly open and face pulled together. He sets his bag on the ground and puts his hands on his hips. When he does that, he looks just like the Harry that Louis remembers (and loves, he thinks with an aching heart).
“I’m sure I mentioned it,” Liam says, but Louis can tell he’s lying by the way he chews on his lower lip and twists his fingers together.
“You’re all a bunch of dick heads, I’m getting in the car.” Louis isn’t sure if he’s being unreasonable. He has no idea what the protocol is when your ex-boyfriend shows up after three years and nobody bothered to give you a heads up. He’s pretty sure he’s allowed to be upset about it, even if it’s only for a bit.

Summary
It was the perfect last day of summer. They built sandcastles, wrote their names in the sand, and caught crabs, which they eventually let go when one of them pinched Louis and he was near tears. Afterward, they swam in the ocean, splashing each other playfully before moving toward one another in sync, lips pressing together in sweet kisses. When their skin turned prune-like, they returned to shore, laying out on their towels beneath the bright sun, snacking on fruit and chocolate while talking about everything and nothing.
At some point, Harry had shared, “I think this has been my favorite summer yet.”
“Why’s that?” Louis asked, a smile peeking out as though he already knew. He looked so pretty and cool with his sun-kissed skin and black Ray-Bans covering his eyes.
Harry rolled over on his towel until he was half-pressed against Louis and placed his palms on top of Louis’ chest, tucking his chin over them. “Because I had you.”

Its weird how all this time, Louis' plan was to persuade Harry to not sell the farm, and yet somewhere along the lines it jumbled and now here he was, more worried about the man sitting next to him leaving than the farm. He was being selfish; he wasn't going to bind Harry to this place as well.

“It’s with him.”
Louis froze, risking a glance back at the person in charge of interviews, show appearances and general publicity. “Him who?” He didn’t hear him correctly. After all, it was both too late and too soon for them to speak to each other. He must have just imagined the way his companion put an emphasis on the pronoun.
Niall didn’t answer his question directly, instead opting for a, “You have to talk eventually, mate. Don’t you reckon you might as well rip the bandaid right off ya?”
There was a very pregnant pause where the security guard took the opportunity to get back in the driver’s seat at the signal of Niall’s head tilt, blue gaze trained on that of his longtime friend and teammate.
“I’m not talking to him.” Louis deadpanned, the quick change of tone too evident to ignore. Just because he wanted to defend him didn’t mean he wanted to speak to him.
