William's body feels unusually heavy, nestled as he is under a reassuring weight. He flexes his fingers, finding them curled around soft fabric. The warmth cocooning him takes on new meaning — it’s early November, and the mornings are often quite chilly. That’s another reason he doesn’t tend to stay in bed too long, preferring to heat his cold fingers with a steaming cup of coffee and curl up on his seat before the fireplace.
When he dares to lift his eyelids, he’s not as surprised as he might have expected to find his cheek pillowed on Sherlock’s forearm, with his hand clinging to an end of Sherlock’s loose nightshirt collar.

“Hm.” Mycroft let the sound rumble in his throat, appreciative of William’s efficiency in his explanation. “So you propose locum tenens.” He stated, rather than asked.
William smiled.
Locum tenens.
A latin phrase, meaning “to hold the place of, to substitute for.” Referring to one who temporarily takes the place of another. Most often used in reference to doctors or clergymen.
But not always.
Mirth shone in William’s eyes.

My own take on a story inspired by a Tumblr post by @user-needs-new-hyperfixation, specifically: “Mycroft/William set in between A Scandal in the British Empire and The Final Problem, in which they have a lot of technically very good but very miserable sex while pining over each other's brothers and picking apart each other's brains brutally.”In which Mycroft and William act as temporary stand-ins for their brothers, influenced heavily by my headcanon that Mycroft was able to deduce William’s real Moriarty Plan.

Set after Albert willingly accepts his place in the Tower of London, where he is left to the mercy of his harsh imprisonment, but worse still the guilt and grief that clouds his mind and soul. His only reprieve is perhaps the strange and whimsical relationship he has to a carrier pigeon and its master, who may be becoming too involved for Albert's liking.
A fic that originally started from a loading screen fact in Assassin's Creed Syndicate and then spiraled out of control.

The embers on his cigarette glow and dim, and Albert looks away from Mycroft’s parted lips. He already knows where he’s going with this. “It might be time for you three to grow apart.”
Albert reminisces on past, present, and future, and his place in the world. Guilt is his crown of thorns to wear, but he must learn to move on.

Albert blinks in surprise and takes a step back. “What?”
He scoffed, pacing slightly. “Well then who is it? You wouldn’t be apologizing if it was me.” Mycroft snaps. Then he takes one look at Albert’s confused face and freezes. “Would you?"
OR- Albert was born with soulmark that ties him to Mycroft Holmes. Mycroft, on the other hand, doesn't have a soulmark at all, leaving Albert to pine from afar as he keeps the truth of the mark secret; until someone else lets it slip.
