Summary
Gryffindor loses their beater due to a nasty accident with a bludger in the first game of the new season. Finding a replacement who has the right stature, stamina and strength for the position of a beater proves to be more than difficult, but with great effort, the captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch team finally manages to win over none other than the sports-shy Richard Ellis for the position.
The news about Gryffindor's new beater is spreading like wildfire, which is probably partly due to the fact that Dale Walsh has chosen not just any student, but one of the head boys of Gryffindor house. All the students are both surprised and delighted. Everyone... except Thomas Barrow, Quidditch captain of the Slytherin house team, who is determined to leave Hogwarts with the cup under his arm in his final year at the school. And not even Gryffindor's new beater will stop him. But Barrow will be careful. Ellis may seem inconspicuous and shy at first glance, but Thomas knows very well that he's got a lot going for him.
And when their paths and their eyes meet again and again after the first game, Thomas Barrow has to make a decision. Because green and silver does not go together with red and gold.

But Richard gently shows him that there is nothing to be afraid of. And that perhaps it is finally time to be brave.
Perhaps, it is time to accept that in the end, he cannot know everything about himself. But he always has the opportunity to try out new things and accept his own desires and wishes instead of supressing them in fear of someone else's reaction.
And Richard will gladly accompany him on every step of the way.

Based on the following Barris Blue Moon Fest prompt:
Scenario: Thomas is surprised/confused when Richard shows concern for his well-being, he is used to it only happening when his partner wants sex/intimacy.
When Thomas enters their cottage on this evening, he feels completely wrecked, tired and flattened. But when Richard shows so much concern and love for his well-being, Thomas feels like he has to pay it back to Richard.
Until Richard shows him, he doesn't need to pay anything back.

Thomas's plans to spend his half free day with Richard get unexpectedly interrupted as soon as he hears that the Bateses have no one to look after little Johnny on their planned afternoon and evening togheter.
First annoyed of the idea, Thomas, helpful as he is, agrees to take care of little Johnny. And even though they can't go out for a picnic in the woods, the afternoon with Richard turns out much more pleasant than Thomas would have ever imagined. And maybe.. just maybe.. John Bates learns a lesson or two out of it.
Or: Thomas and Richard take care of little Johnny and show John Bates that 'Family' doesn't have to be a certain way.
