Baba managed to avoid hitting the noise traps that were standard issue in Payan tents, but collapsed heavily onto a bench close to the fire, where he remained for several moments, breathing unevenly.~

Not just because Aurora had been so cautiously optimistic about him not having a soulmate at all—it would only complicate matters, she told him, one more risk to Octavia’s secret existence. He feels that it’s deeply unfair to have to walk around with "privileged" on his skin when he’s anything but. Being from Factory already means rations are tight, and with three mouths to feed when they can barely sustain two, "privileged" feels like a mockery.
