Really, he thought as the bus popped through time and space again, he’d happily go to Timbuktu if Riddle declared that their destination, as long as he didn’t have to go back to Privet Drive.
“We can’t stay in the magical world,” Riddle said, though he sounded annoyed by this too. “Two boys on the younger side without any adults will draw attention, and that’s the last thing we want. No, we’ll go to London proper, where no one gives a toss and we can blend in with all the rabble.”
Or: Harry Potter and Tom Riddle go rogue from Dumbledore’s plans, and go a little wild in Muggle London, the summer after their first year.

Summary
There is something to be said for an ill timed death, magical exhaustion, and traveling back in time for how it affects one's speech. Harry Potter just wasn't really prepared to have all three happen to him at once. Suddenly he finds himself back in time roughly 3 years from when the first wizarding war ended and surrounded by a gaggle of freshly graduated Marauders.
Worse still is when between trying to explain who he was fighting and who he was, it sounds like he's introducing himself as Harry Potter Riddle.
