The jinko’s words had started to take on a larger echo the farther the raven-haired mafioso walked. He could feel the other fuming, which would’ve been a bit amusing if he wasn’t so focused on having his guard up.
“Hey!” Atsushi quips, tone laced with irritation, “Nope. Absolutely not–”
Akutagawa scoffs, the tiniest of grins slipping onto his face as he turns his head back. “Is the jinko possibly afraid?"

The truth is, every molecule in his being is zinging to be across the room, lost in conversation with an attractive, friendly stranger. To be anywhere but here, alone and miserable and with nothing to do but stew in his isolation until he can finally go back to the Castle.
The stranger’s smile turns into an outright, teeth-showing grin. And that, Lance will later reflect—that’s what seals the deal. That’s the point of no return.

Lance had always imagined his perfect wedding. He dreamt about meeting "The One" in a ‘love at first sight’ scenario. Perhaps they would meet on a train during rush hour when it was standing room only. Maybe the train would jolt and Lance would fall into their arms or they would fall into his. They would both apologise profusely, of course. Their ‘sorrys’ would be spoken at the exact same time, just as they made eye contact with each other unable to look away. Then they’d blush and giggle nervously. He’d extend his hand out to them with a confident, “Lance”, and they would smile, a genuine smile and take his hand and say…

Lance blinked. “Uh—adaptability, crossbow, swimming, and seduction.”
"Well, we don't have a crossbow," He paused, hesitating, “And it's not like seduction is going to help us right now.”
Lance gave him a roguish grin, leaning just a little too casually against the bark.“You’d be surprised.”
“No,” Pidge growled. “No one is seducing the crazy monster.” The creature slammed its tail into a tree and roared again, knocking it over in a shower of leaves and startled birds.
“I vote to seduce the crazy monster,” Lance said diplomatically.

But one night, while hunting, his friend Junichirou gets lost. Taking refuge in an abandoned castle, the young man incurs the wrath of the castle's lord and is sentenced to death.
All he can do is return to the village one last time to say goodbye. But Atsushi refuses to accept his friend's fate. Choosing to sacrifice himself in his friend's place, he finds himself plunged into a world of magic and mystery by his strange host, who ultimately doesn't kill him.

Summary
Six years ago, vampires began taking over America.
Today, Keith is an upper level vampire commander. Due to his status, he has the privilege of keeping humans in his home, able to suck their blood at will. After he is promoted, he is given the option of a Human harem, a rotation of humans to be drained and eventually killed. Or, as luck would have it, one special human was available. A human with a blood disorder making him uniquely capable of producing red blood cells, to the point where draining him is almost impossible. Keith, harboring a secret the other vampire commanders would crucify him for, has never had much of a taste for killing people, so he opts for the one human, named Lance.
Lance, for his part, is just trying to survive, maybe get some revenge if possible. He hates vampires and the world they've created. He hates Commander Kogane as soon as he sees him, just by virtue of being a vampire. The longer he lives with Commander Kogane, however, the more confused Lance's emotions become.
Vampire and Handmaids Tale fusion. (Do not need to have read or watched The Handmaid's Tale to understand!)

“That everything you touch turns gold,” The knight spoke with unexpected wonder in his voice, reminiscent of a child talking about fairies. Did he, too, believe that Atsushi was a magical creature?
“Not everything,” he replied, unable to hide his apprehension. Akutagawa's expression turned cold again. What in Heaven was his problem?
After being captured by the King, Atsushi is confined to a remote castle, where he remains guarded by the King's hellhound—Knight Akutagawa Ryūnosuke.

Atsushi just continues to stare into his eyes, his head turned towards Akutagawa as the sobs don't stop and the tears drip, drip, drip. Their hands still interlocked, hold all the proof that he needs, but he can't help it as the words come out of his mouth once again.
