Summary

While there, they not only build a new life for themselves and their family, but their relationship grows and flourish like the wildflowers that refuse to die in the Texan sun.

"Buck?" Eddie called as he walked further into the firehouse. He cursed the blackout and wanted nothing more than for Buck to pop out, wearing his signature smile and laughing off Eddie's concern. The alpha felt something twist sharply inside his chest as panic started to crawl in his veins. It was the panic of an alpha acknowledging that their mate was missing. Mate, because while he was trying to make things work with Ana, his true mate had been right in front of him.
Slowly, Eddie rounded to the front of the firehouse and white nosie filled his ears as he picked up the ebbs of Buck's scent. Followed swiftly by two more scents; an unknown alpha and the metallic taste of blood. Something old and ancient woke up inside Eddie as the others crowded around him, faces pale as they spotted the blood on the ground.

That's the first thing he realizes; the second is that he feels weird.
Weird as in, he feels like he's fourteen again when he had that sudden growth spurt and his limbs ached from how fast they'd grown. His father had told him to man up about it, that it was normal to grow. It was normal for his body to ache as it got used to its new shape.
He feels like that again, but this time it is so. Much. Worse.
It's worse because when he looks down, he doesn't see hands. He doesn't see feet. He doesn't see clothes.
He sees a tail. And claws. And a knocked-over lamp where a leathery wing had bumped into it. Another wing that stays tucked against his side. His St. Christopher medallion on the floor, the chain broken.
He has to be dreaming. It would be impossible that he isn't stuck in a dream right now. A nightmare, even. It's impossible. It's insane.

Summary
“Buck?” he whimpers. Buck rubs his cheek on the delicate skin right where his jugular is, voice letting out a constant rumble.
He’s purring, Eddie realizes. Buck’s purring.
He puts his lips on Eddie's neck, smearing blood and goo all over him, sticky and wet. And there’s a sudden flick of a tongue, a feeling that makes Eddie’s knees buckle.
“Are you scared?” Buck croaks out. It’s the first thing he’s said since he came here.
“For you,” Eddie says. “I’m scared for you, bud. I just wanna know what’s wrong, you know, to-to protect you, to keep you safe.”
“Safe?”
“Yeah. I just wanna help you, Buck. You’re my best friend.”
Buck nuzzles him. “Yours.”
“Yeah,” Eddie says. “So, please.”
And that’s when Buck bites.

Swept away by the massive receding wave, bleeding head and battered body slamming into far too much debris to get out of this mess with only scrapes and bruises, Buck had no idea how he ended up in this position and yet was not surprised at all to be here.

Eddie noticed something unnaturally bright in the distance, floating towards the shore. As the mysterious object got closer in sight, Eddie realized in horror that it was a human - the bright red button-up covering a blood-stained white tee, worn by a man who was not moving or even making any noise.

It seemed as if the secretion Eddie’s tentacles released with every move was able to act as a salve for the human, allowing these particular wounds to seal. With his little prior contact with humans, Eddie had no idea this was a possibility, so this discovery felt miraculous with the daunting situation in front of him. Eddie started to move his tentacles across other parts of Buck’s body, lightly caressing the bleeding limbs while trying to get his dazed attention once again.AKA

She looks up at him as he approaches. He kneels in front of her, gently gathering the scraps of the pelt to hand back to her. She stares at him with wide eyes and scowls, shaking her head and pushing the scraps away.
“Please take them. I think my abuela can fix it. But I need you to touch them first.” He begs but, her scowl only deepens. Her determination to get the scraps away from her increases though, even as he can feel her physical strength waning.
He can hear the rest of the team shuffling closer, in silence as she gets visibly paler and sweatier. He knows their concern only builds when she starts to pant audibly, heaving gasps as she tries to push him away.
