“It’s Jon, isn’t it?”
Martin goes suddenly very still, turning his gaze to Tim with wide hazel eyes. “I- er- I’m not sure I know- What?”
Tim feels his face split in a grin. “So it is Jon! I was just guessing!”
“It-” Martin fumbled for a moment, then sighs. “Tim can we please not do this?” His brow is a deep furrow, his eyes near pleading behind his glasses.
“Yeah, alright.” Tim pauses. “You could probably do better, you know.”
“Tim!” Martin’s ears are a bright shade of scarlet, and Tim feels his smile grow wider.
“I’m serious!” He elbows Martin in the arm. “You’re a real catch, that grouchy little hermit doesn’t know what they're missing.”

Summary
It would be easy to chock it up to a simple curiosity, to ignore the underlying problem and push it off to one side, as had been his well-established pattern for years. Truthfully he knew it was more than that, it was an old itch that he could never quite scratch, something that crawled up in the back of his mind no matter how often he tried to force it back down.
He had, of course, indulged that itch in the past; there were those messy, half-remembered nights in college; those mornings when he’d woken up and had to scrub his skin raw just to feel clean again after what he’d done.
But things were different now; he was different now. He had a wife, and a son; the picture-perfect family that he’d always wanted. He had the life he was supposed to, the life he’d dreamed about since he was a child. Yes, for all intents and purposes, Marvin should have been happy. So why then was he so miserable?

His tongue is dry and Jonah still feels paralyzed. There is a sudden pressure at his throat, a ribbon wrapped around his muscles that tugs upward, forcing his lips to move in a way that he knows is supernatural.
“May 29th, 1803,” he gasps and clutches at his neck to fight the sensation even as it goes slack and begins to fade.
Between death and a do-over, Jon would have tentatively chosen ‘do-over’. Of course, even when he and Martin get another chance, things become complicated and now they are faced with how to save this new reality while living with their former arch nemesis pre-avatarhood and whilst adjusting to the new time period. Chaos, as expected, ensues.
