Mike shook his head quickly. His pale cheeks flushed, covering his freckles in a faint pink like he was embarrassed, or maybe warm. Will told himself it was probably just the basement lighting. Or the heat.
“No,” Mike said. “Like… the other game.” He rubbed his thumb against the edge of the blanket, not looking at Will now. “The one where you dare each other to do stuff. And you have to keep going until someone backs out.” He swallowed. “Chicken.”

Mike can look at Will if he goes back to his girlfriend afterwards. He can kiss her if he wants to look at Will again. At least that's how it used to work. Now Mike can't kiss El. Every time he closes his eyes and feels her lips on his, he sees Will instead of the red darkness under his eyelids. He wants to feel the warmth of his lips against his.
Desire is not a choice. Desire is just desire. Desire is just a thought that, like a parasite, takes over his brain. Kissing Will is a choice. Mike doesn't make it. He chooses not to kiss his girlfriend, so he won't want to kiss Will.

Summary
In the scene with Robin and Will talking about how to read signals, Will’s reaction to talking about the snowball becoming an avalanche makes me think that Mike has been sending him signals during the year they have been living together. He definitely seems to understand when Robin says things like “knees brushing” and “long stares.” Will also seems to be comfortable with hitting on Mike in general, which makes me think maybe Mike and El broke up before season 5, or at least Will has some reason to feel justified to hit on his sister’s (ex?)-boyfriend.
Anyways, here’s my fic based on this idea.

It was as if Mike was waking a child from a deep slumber. But as he sat on his knees, tears streaming down his face because of a dream he can only vaguely remember, he found his hand slowly moving towards Will's and gripping it tightly. The words came out of his mouth before he could stop them and when he watched Will's eyes widen at the words, Mike felt instant regret.

Logline: When Mike wakes from another vecna-fueled nightmare, he desperately seeks comfort from Will. Will seems just as desperate to give it to him.
