Summary
When a wizard turns seventeen, their soul mark manifests. Tom Riddle splits his soul twice and magic punishes him. He never gets his mark but he rises above it, like always. Soulmates are worthless to a highly accomplished wizard like him.
Magic does not punish Harry Potter. But Harry feels like it does. When he turns seventeen, he gets the Minister’s name on his wrist and assumes Tom doesn’t want him. Why else would Tom have ignored him all these years?
So Harry runs away to Puerto Rico. Eight years later, he returns to England convinced he can handle seeing Tom again.
He’s wrong.
Because Tom is looking this time, and he has no plans to look away. Harry might not be his soulmate, but he’s the one Tom wants to spend the rest of his life with. Now if only he can get Harry to want him back.

Harry can’t imagine how they’ll manage it, considering the whole wizarding world is against him—including the Dark Lord himself—but he likes to dream about it. Maybe they’ll whisk him away from the train at the end of the year and he’ll not have to see the Dursleys ever again. Maybe they’ll take him out of Britain entirely. Surely Voldemort will leave him alone if he’s not even in the country, right?

“I don't care.” I don't feel anything. But he knows that's a lie. The protagonist checked in the mirror daily, a creeping fear traveling up his spine that he was becoming a Visitor—that he was spending so much time inviting the wrong people that he was getting infected by them.
