In hindsight, Jerome should've pulled one of his infamous disappearing acts. The whole circus, hell, the whole world could be searching high and low for Jerome Valeska but they would never find him. He was a master at hiding, having honed in on those skills since Lila started hitting him at the age of 5. When she'd come home shit-faced drunk, Jerome would make sure to hide Jeremiah first because she often confused Jeremiah for Jerome. The boy would taunt his mom and get her to hit him and ONLY him. He had to protect Jeremiah, his precious baby brother, who would never find out what it's like to be on the receiving end of Lila Valeska's closed fist. She was skin and bones, those knuckles would tear into Jerome's body, breaking both skin and muscle. The redhead would have bruises for weeks but nobody ever batted an eye at the abuse. Jerome Valeska was a miscreant, bastard child of an unknown sailor who died at sea. Jeremiah was the smart one, he was going to go places while Jerome stayed at the circus like an unwanted stray animal.

The first prototype of its kind was released in 2013 by Abbot Laboratories, a well-known bioengineering company based in Chicago, United States.
A living, breathing, organic creature that is half animal and half human. This model was a dog, specifically a husky breed, with fluffy ears perched on top of his head and a wagging tail that protruded from the base of his spine. His distinguishing feature, however, is the fact he didn’t possess the ability to talk. Sure, he could learn basic commands, bark when hungry, whine if he needed to relieve his bladder but like most animals, he couldn’t articulate his needs.
As one can imagine, the controversial gene splicing didn’t sit well, and public opinion took off like a raging storm.

Summary
The first time it happened they were roughly 5 years old, and it occurred during a hot, humid infested summer night.
It felt a lot like being boiled alive in their tiny, cramped bedroom. All the windows to the trailer are wide open, including the front door but the night air brings no respite from the heat.
Jeremiah is on his back, dressed in a pair of trunks that are a size too big for his narrow frame. He kicked the blankets off long ago, but he felt sticky, and somewhat annoyed that Jerome insisted on cuddling.
Jerome has his head resting on his brother’s shoulder, an arm draped across Jeremiah’s chest. He snored quietly into Jeremiah’s ear, seemingly unbothered by the heat.

If Bruce could describe Jeremiah’s expression, it would be like nails scraping across a chalkboard. The smile looks wrong. There’s no emotion behind it. There’s no compassion, or playfulness. It’s a well-dressed storefront hiding empty shelves. A forgery that’s fooled others before, but to Bruce, it’s unsettling.
“After you,” Jeremiah nods in Jerome’s direction.
“Okay…” Disregarding his gut instinct, Bruce exits the tent first, Jeremiah close in tow.
