Brasso was twenty then. Learning his way around his dad’s repair shop, running errands for his mother, and from that point forward, running meals over to Maarva’s house a couple times a month, when his mother and the rest of the Daughters started to intuit (accurately, he decided) that Maarva was beginning to find their fussing overbearing and suffocating.
She tolerated him at first, if only because he was someone new, and then he came back two days later with a couple of replacement coils for her heater and a better tool for cleaning out B2EMO’s treads and he seemed to move up greatly in her estimation, from polite tolerance to, “Come back soon, and I’ll show you how a linbok stew is meant to taste,” and if Brasso strategically chose to never relay that to his mother, well, she’d always said he had the best head on his shoulders of all his siblings.

Cassian Andor has grown to be an expert at ignoring his own discomfort in service of the Rebellion. Bacta keeps the physical scars almost unnoticeable and compartmentalization allows him to ignore the gaping wounds left in his psyche after years of fighting. It works for the most part; the medkit mends and his training holds.
But while trying to enjoy a quiet night alone with Melshi, it all catches up to him.

His hand is warm and heavy on Brasso's flank. If he concentrates, Brasso can even feel Cass's pulse in the skinny wrist he's still holding onto with half-hearted strength.
"What is it you want?" he pushes back. There are always consequences with Cass. Always repercussions and unseen costs. And Brasso needs to know if he can afford to let this happen.
Cass nips his lower lip between his teeth and gives a little snort of amusement. "I'm just curious. You're not curious?" His fingers tighten, clutching folds of Brasso's vest, digging into the flesh beneath.
Curious barely covers it, Brasso thinks.

Brasso: You insulted my choice of beverage. As host and provider, I was offended by this. You failed to gauge the depth of my irritation. You rose to make your point more vocally. I was helping you back into your chair when you fell.

We all had a good think about what 'helping a buddy back to his chair' involved, sure, didn't we? AU where the Corpos didn't catch up with Cassian before he got to his ship and he got off Morlana One in time to go drinking with Brasso. He's full of bitterness about his past, dwelling on Kerri and Kenari and the fuck-ups he should probably regret more than he does. All he needs is a distraction, all Brasso was expecting was an easy night of talk and drink - and instead he gets the most ungrateful, bad-tempered house-guest this side of the sun.

“Is this how you found yourself here?” The droid’s head tilts quizzically; something in it reminds him of Bee. “Shot and shut down and rebuilt in a strange new place?”
There’s a pause he’d call baffled, except the droid doesn’t move an inch, its gaze resting unwaveringly on Cassian’s face as he pulls deep gulps of the water. “You are not a droid,” is all it eventually points out.
“And you’re not an Imperial anything, no matter what that crest on your shoulder plate claims.”
The head tips back the other way. “I am Kay-Two-Ess-Oh.” Cassian sketches a sardonic salute before bracing himself and starting to lever his body more upright, ribs protesting quite adamantly with the motion. “You are Lieutenant Joreth Sward; except perhaps you are not.”
That at least gives him pause; if they’ve already sorted that for themselves, maybe his hopes of extracting himself from this place are rising considerably.

“Let’s split up,” Cassian said, pulling two credit chips out of the mysterious chest he’d just recovered from the hotel and pressing them into Melshi’s palm. “Get yourself some new clothes, anything else you need. These should be enough. There’re stores down that way and a market by the canal. Keep your head down. Stay away from the troopers. If you see anything, don’t run. Don’t even walk. Just stay where you are and look like you belong. Don’t go any further than the courthouse.”
Melshi pocketed the chips. “Anything else?”
“Be careful.” Cassian didn’t look amused. “I’ll get us something to eat. Meet back here in an hour.”

The first thing Cassian notices is the lack of it.
That’s not quite true. The first thing he’d noticed was the ever stretching tungstoid floors, closely followed by searing, burning pain that worked its way through every nerve and fiber of his body.
It’s odd to notice something because it isn’t there, but as he steps onto the platform that will take him down to the floor, it’s impossible to miss. Or rather, it’s because it’s missing. Fifty men enclosed in a space so small shouldn’t smell like nothing.

Then reality shifted and everything became several things at one like the bird/sky/man/fury, Steven watched, sounds and feeling painted across colors and shapes, it hurt so bad to look but Steven was fascinated. This program makes zero sense, but Steven couldn't look away.
Steven shakes off the memory. He's been surfacing from the dark cool place for a minute now. He's in the woods, in an unknown country with Marc and Jake and without knowing them well he's certain they're the most dangerous people he's ever met. Steven needs to go home."
The Ennead snaps the system apart and Khonshu snaps the Ennead into pieces.
Marc, Jake and Steven have been split apart and tossed across the ocean. With Harrow looking for them the only way they can fight is by hiding. There's no going home anymore and Marc, Jake and Steven struggle to make something new.
