Summary
When Bruce and Jay finally find the disturbance that the Batcomputer had detected—a big, swirling mass of light on the ground—Jay is even the first one to realize it’s some kind of portal somewhere. Bruce gives him a proud smile and squeezes his shoulder in a way just intimate enough to be wrong. Jay tries to pretend he doesn’t lean into it. Bruce’s hand slips down to the small of his back, and Jay presses closer against Bruce’s side, and that gets him another pleased smile.
So, overall, the night is going great, until Jay trips and falls into the stupid portal.
Jason Todd-Wayne lives with his beloved dad, a kind and caring Bruce Wayne. In an adjacent dimension, Jay Todd lives with a Bruce Wayne who's been abusing him since shortly after his adoption. What else would someone call having the ability to kill someone with a word, whether intentionally or the horrible otherwise?
What else could he call it when he remembered how the burning anger on his father’s face had suddenly disappeared? Replaced by abject apathy at Jason’s hand and his shouted command. Except it hadn’t been a command, nor a plea, only the angry words of a scared child. He hadn’t meant them, not really. Not literally.
Yeah. Jason wouldn’t call that a blessing.

Summary
The only thing that has brought on the slightest relief since Bruce first did this to Jason was the Joker’s toxin. It washed every last dredge of fear away and left only amusement in its place. For the first time in a long time, Jason could breathe. But there are a million reasons why Jason would have to be a complete idiot to utilize that method again.
Even that mild dose the Joker gave him was more than enough to have Jason feeling invincible. No fear, no hang-ups. He felt immortal—and even if he did end up bleeding, the pain was too fucking funny to worry about. He’d never felt so free in his life.
Jason nearly asked the clown for an extra dose for the road, but he knows better than anyone what a slippery slope that can be. He saw it on the streets, in both his parents, in Roy’s eyes every time he finds himself craving a drink. Jason could never allow himself to take such a dumb risk.
So, Jason endures.
