“Sorry, Yoshiki,” Hikaru groans as tears come out of one eye and more of him comes out of the other. “Ughh, I don’t – ”
Yoshiki can see how hard he’s trying to calm himself down, but it just isn’t working.
“It’s ok,” Yoshiki says, quiet. “It’s ok. Instead of shovin’ it back inside completely, can you try just...lettin’ it out? Just a little bit?”
He has no clue how any of this works, but maybe a half-measure is better than trying to force it all at once.
“Okay,” Hikaru says, but it sounds like a sob. More of the unknowable, incomprehensible swirl leaks out into the dark room.
“Yoshiki – shit – ‘m sorry but can I…” Hikaru’s face – what’s visible behind the bloom of him – twists in a small kind of agony. “Can I touch you? Not much. Just – ”
It's been years since Hikaru first took the body of Yoshiki's dead best friend. Despite everything - every horror and hurt - they managed to find a home in each other. Not quite friends or family. More and not. What they have is complicated, but precious.
But when Yoshiki escapes their small town – to college, to Tokyo – Hikaru follows. And things start to change for them both.

He didn't like the tension. It felt like nails rotating in his stomach; bile would threaten to rise from his esophagus for every single second he waited. His knees would shake, and his heart would bang against his ribcage in a way that almost hurt.

He doesn’t have much self-control however, and doesn’t understand the consequences of overindulgence in food. His still very human body begins to change after months of this behavior. Too much of a good thing takes its own toll after all, but Yoshiki thinks he might not mind.

“Yoshiki, look! Mincemeat cutlets!”
“What’re ya talking about?” Yoshiki squints against the blinding snow through his bangs. The snowfall is thin and wet. It’ll probably be gone by tomorrow, but the cold seeps into Yoshiki’s core. Winter has come early this year.
It’ll have been a year soon. So soon. Just a few more weeks.
Time refuses to stop, more of a monster than anything else Yoshiki has encountered.
Or: Yoshiki grapples with whether or not “Hikaru” has the autonomy to truly love him if his companionship is the result of fulfilling a wish.

The placard beneath the tank reads 'Flower Hat Jellyfish'. "This one kinda looks like me."

Unphased by the widened expression looking up at him, Hikaru dropped the thin papers on top of their homework, pointing at the pretty red and pink heart-shaped chocolate boxes. “Would ya’ like it? If someone gave you something like this? Do ya’ want this kinda’ romance too?”

“….and where did Maki say he got them from?” Yoshiki punctuates his statement with wide eyes and growing concern.

“I mean… how do you think humans reproduce?” It’s Yoshiki’s turn to pose a question, lips slightly pouting as he mentally jumps through the possible answers ‘Hikaru” could say.
‘Hikaru’ looks up at the ceiling, gears in his head turning as he formulates his answer.
His eyes light up, hands clasping together with a loud clap- obviously signaling that he has cracked the code.
“Well, ya get married, and then ya got like…. I dunno, five? Mini versions of ya!”
Yoshiki winces, he can’t even try to hide the look of secondhand embarrassment on his face- ‘Hikaru’ sounds so sure of himself- is he really going to have to educate him on this?
OR
'Hikaru' doesn't exactly understand where human babies come from, and Yoshiki is asked to explain.

‘Hikaru’ averts his eyes with a sheepish chuckle, “I don’t wanna freak you out, s’all.”
Sliding his thumb down ‘Hikaru’s’ jaw, Yoshiki rests it against ‘Hikaru’s’ chin, and Yoshiki lets the corner of his mouth lift in a smile as he mutters, “If I knew you’d freak me out—I wouldn’t have asked for this.”
Then, Yoshiki uses his hold on ‘Hikaru’s’ jaw to bring his face closer until he can feel warm air fan against Yoshiki’s lips.
He uses his thumb to faintly pry ‘Hikaru’s’ mouth open, lips brushing, and Yoshiki’s heart is beating so loud in his ears as he murmurs, “Just don’t hold back this time.”
or: Yoshiki and 'Hikaru' give kissing another go, only this time--it ends up being more than just a kiss
