It doesn’t feel like too much of a flirt with danger, the raised ledge keeping her safely contained to the corner of the roof she’s found herself in. She feels secure enough sitting here, hiding away from the rest of the world. It’s an almost still evening, the air fresh as it gently breezes against her still flushed cheeks. It’s not her first time seeking solace up here after a hard shift, and it’s probably not going to be her last, either.
Or: Cassie isn't used to having someone who wants to take care of her the way Dana does.

It haunts him slowly, eating him out from the inside before taking action after playing with its food.

He couldn’t let that happen to them. This system had already screwed them over. The people who were supposed to care for them had done the opposite.
Kakashi wasn’t going to be another adult who let these kids down.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen. And maybe I’ll only make things worse…” Kakashi murmured softly to the framed photo at his bedside. “…But I have to try.”
He had to. Or these pups were as good as dead.
