Summary
Dick Grayson loves too freely and deeply for his own good. Wary of the heartbreak that inevitably follows, there's a guardian 'angel' that visits each new partner with a simple warning: Hurt Dick Grayson and they'll be back for you. With a shovel and a grave freshly marked.
OR
The five times that Jason Todd gives the shovel talk to Dick's romantic partners, and the one time he has to give it to himself.
-
“Right,” she replied, disbelieving. When he made no move towards or away from her, she risked a quick glance at the shovel, an eyebrow arching up. She understood the implication there and seemed more annoyed than scared. “Really? Are we doing this again?”
He’d expected that. Jason chuckled at her taunt, pushing off the wall. He pulled the cigarette from between his lips, breathing out a halo of smoke. “You got a free pass last time,” he said with a shrug. Truth, for it’d been Tarantula’s machinations that tipped Babara’s relationship with Dick over into heartbreak, saving her full blame and, as such, a grave. “You can thank Catalina Flores for that.”

Summary
There's something evil going on in Gotham. As usual. And so the vigilantes of the city have stepped up to investigate. As usual. Robin's been captured and placed as bait in a deadly trap. As usual. All-in-all, it's just another Tuesday night.
-
Nightwing yawned theatrically, mock rubbing the back of his hand over his mask, then looked up at the glass-paneled roof. Bulletproof, it covered the length of the lethal labyrinth - wait, it wasn’t a labyrinth, more a straight line from A to “be free, Robin” - and allowed the villainous masterminds a perfect overhead view to watch his suffering desperation. Of which he was fresh out, darn.
“Really, Harley?” he called up, arms spread wide to encapsulate the whole high effort, low reward spectacle. “Aren’t death gauntlets kind of gauche nowadays?”

Summary
One night every few weeks is the agreement; John Marston looks forward to those nights when he and Abigail open up their relationship and go home with separate folks. No commitment, no callbacks - just sex, straight up. This time, though, his luck runs sour in a shallow pool of prospects and John can't help but feel damned frustrated at striking out, and damned distracted by the sandy-haired bouncer that keeps the peace in this redneck, hole-in-the-wall bar that Abigail's dragged him to.
-
The hour between deal and deed crept past slower that it had rights to. Each minute whispered doubt, mockery, and disbelief that there were any tryst pending. John wanted to blame the alcohol for it, but he'd tapped out too long ago for it to be the presence hovering over his shoulder, playing the skeptic.
No, this weird flux in his gut came by the steadily settling and surreal understanding that he'd gone from struck out to striking gold like a lucky bastard. Maybe it ain't with one he would've chosen on his own, being at the bar for employment over enjoyment. But the man'd been pulled from some unknown well of handsome, muscled bastards that John ain't realized he'd a thirst to drink from, but now felt parched without.

Summary
Back alley interludes lead into the chiding reminder that all is not awful when it comes to Arthur Morgan.
-
“I ain’t done nothing,” he supplies, defensive because Arthur knows exactly what Josiah means. He knows and denies it time and again. That leads them to this chiding time and again, but he ain’t so smart as to give in.
The first reply, an arched brow, challenges that as Josiah shifts his grip to tap one finger against his nose. “You’ve done nothing more than allow that steam locomotive of your mind to set upon the wrong track,” comes the correction. Same as the last time, and the dozen times before. The severity of his tone softens, a brief concern taking its place that makes Arthur feel uncomfortably seen and wanted in ways he don’t deserve. “Thinking ‘how ugly I am’ and ‘what a fool I am’ when you’ve no reason to feel either.”

Summary
In the moment, there's no room for reason or sense - not for John Marston. Too often does he live in the moment and now, after a year of running, he returns to face his reality - to face Arthur Morgan and what he expects to be his own death in punishment for leaving the only family that's ever given a damn about him. Adrenaline runs high when his return is met with unexpected welcome from all but the one he needs it from: Arthur.
-
There is no watershed moment, no breaking of the floodgates like when he first returned. Word spreads that John accepted Jack as his son and, by extension, Abigail as his woman and no one much fusses about it. She gives him a dubious look at the announcement, but offers a grateful hug – a visual reunion of two non-lovers all but trapped in their roles.
"You're a damn fool, John Marston," she breathes into his ear, fingers gripped tight at his shoulders.
"Don't I know it," he says, rueful and self-deprecating. And yet it is truth, openly admitted, because who else would go to the things he has for the sake of maybe getting through to Arthur 'Thick-Headed' Morgan.

Summary
Established Morston, c.1893 and later, that follows these two cowboys through a series of encounters that skirt around their outlaw acts of robbing and thieving. There are light Dom/sub dynamics and bondage themes implied throughout because John is a handsy bastard and Arthur has no patience for being grabbed at.

Summary
It isn’t until that night, when Jason is poking at stir fry in a pan that definitely isn’t a wok, that he pulls up the news again and figures it out.
Nightwing had been out in broad daylight, a rare spotting of a strictly nocturnal bird, busting up some minor drug ring. The blue-chevroned blur in the picture has dark hair that is slightly too long, a body that is too short and too lean, although it would take being very familiar with Nightwing to spot the difference. The article is almost pushed off the digital front page, though, buried under the reports of Red Hood’s daring rescue of Gotham’s darling Dick Grayson, who had spent all day kidnapped and definitely wasn’t swinging around rooftops at any point.
“Ah,” Jason says, and tends to his stir fry before it can burn.

Summary
“Morning, Arthur.” Abigail greets him with a soft smile, and he manages a somewhat thin one in response as he sits beside her. There’s something knowing in her gaze and she puts down the yarn, rising to her feet and offering his shoulder a gentle squeeze. “I’ll grab you some coffee.” She offers and he nods in thanks, not quite able to finds words yet.
The view out the kitchen window is gray, the sky overcast and dull. The trees around the barn are dropping the last of their leaves, the golds and reds of Autumn fading to brown and rust. It’s an appropriate reflection of how he feels; worn and brittle and faded.
