Summary
We walk to the group sitting by the bar now, giggling as they watch us together. Their knowing looks bring a flush to my face and I find myself sheepishly looking away to avoid the accusations. Whether it’s because he knows me or because we are kindred spirits, in his words, I am unsure, but he seems to sense my discomfort immediately and speaks on my behalf, albeit a bit messily. “Quiet down, you,” he pokes at Ominis who laughs in surprise. “The birthday girl is rather tuckered, I shall deliver her back to Hogwarts.”
Garreth coughs, choking on a laugh. “Well, you make sure to treat her well, Sallow.”
Of course, they all are thinking it. Garreth is simply the only one to be bold enough to verbalize it.
Sebastian gives him an irritated look, letting out a disgruntled scoff. “Don’t be such a dunce, Weasley. I would never do such a thing outside of courtship. My mother raised a gentleman, after all.”
“Well,” Anne interrupts smugly, “our mother didn’t raise us much at all, Seb.”

Then she’s thinking of how absolutely miserable her life has become. Of course, it never used to be like this. In her days of homecoming she had decided that she would return to her schooling and finish in getting her master’s degree; she simply could not settle for something as small as an associate’s or bachelor’s. She was determined to prove to her father that she was still a capable being, that he did not need to throw away all he had going for himself and this country to help his daughter who’s already been saved.

Summary
Her knight is too silent.
She knows him well by now, she likes to think. She knows that, proper and quiet as he is, he utters little sounds of amusement at her words, whispers to alert her of danger, and hums of pleasantry as he prepares them a meal. She knows his laugh filling her ears is a joyous sound that she wishes she could replicate over and over if only to see that care-free smile wash over his face. She knows he makes grunts of pain, huffs of frustration, and goes fully silent only when she stares too long into his eyes. He is careful, as if within cerulean are chambers which hold his most precious secrets. When his cheeks flush and he looks away, bangs covering bright blue and the tips of his ears matching the pink of his lips, she feels relief that he cannot see the nature of her salacious thoughts dripping from green eyes onto pink cheeks.
Link is quiet, yes, but not like this.

“I didn’t tell you sooner,” Leon explains, “because I knew that if you hadn’t come running to find me you definitely didn’t know, and I didn’t want to get you excited if it was just flurries covering a tiny bit of ground. So I waited a few hours, and now there’s enough snow to go… look at, or whatever you prefer.”
She tries to lie to herself by saying that her heart doesn’t skip a beat when Leon tells her that he waited to tell her something because he wanted her to be able to enjoy it immediately. She wants to say thank you and explain to him why that means so much to her (because he’s her bodyguard and he isn’t paid to care about her, he’s just asked to keep her safe, and yet he cares so much, he puts in effort to please her). Instead, she says: “Who just looks at snow, Leon? If it’s snowing I want to play in it!”
Momentarily Leon looks embarrassed as his left hand moves to scratch the back of his head. Stupid, stupid, stupid, she thinks. As she opens her mouth to spew out rapid apologies, Leon composes himself and cracks out, in a half-smile, “I just assumed playing in snow isn’t prestigious enough for your eminence.”

And then she was laughing and she shoved Leon. And suddenly Leon was laughing, too. And suddenly they weren’t in Spain, afraid and tired and cold and uncomfortable and in pain, but instead in their own place of solace. They were in a room of their own, telling secrets and giggling like children, sharing affectionate glances and treading on ice like secret lovers, dreaming of stolen kisses like desperate fools who have fallen in love. Suddenly Leon was not an agent who survived Raccoon City and lived solely to sacrifice his body and needs to save others. Suddenly Leon was seen, and heard, and whole. Suddenly Leon was human, no longer devoid of all feelings. It was like her sunshine had resurrected him from a death he had not yet met, and he felt himself getting drunk off of her light.

At some points, especially when facing the risk of the collapse of the multiverse, it felt as though their titles had meshed together. They were a million things all at once, but never honest. “Mono,” Six smiled as she pushed his hair away, “I want you to come with me to my apartment for a few days to spend the holidays. I was thinking you could come tonight to get comfortable and tomorrow we could decorate the place together. You could stay till Christmas day, or the day after if you want. You deserve to get out every once in a while, you know? Will you stay with me? Please?”
Mono’s face was immediately hot, crimson red pulsing beneath his eyes. He cleared his throat, covering his face with the nearest hat he could find and muttered, “ I would love to.”
The girl giggled, removing his hat from his face and smiling. She was well aware that he had a crush on her. No one told her, but Mono was a little bad at hiding his feelings.
Mono looked up at her, biting his lip and looking back down. “I’ll pack my things now.”

“Hey, Six,” he urged, “please.”
She looked straight into his eyes and he noticed her lips go from a flat line to a grimace as she let go of his hand forcefully. There was not a single look of remorse in her eyes as she stared at his falling figure.

Killua walked up to the counter with sullen eyes. When he looked up, he halfway thought that the sun had returned from setting, as if the moon had chosen to sleep in tonight, and the sun was on duty a little while longer. As it turns out, the moon made it to work on time, and he had simply looked into honey-gold eyes, shining at him as a sunkissed-skinned boy opened his mouth to order. Before he could, Killua said his cue line. “Hi, welcome to York New Cafe. What can I get for you this evening?”
The boy looked taken aback by the sound of Killua’s voice, and he felt his face heat up from the gaze he received. “Hi,” the golden boy said. Killua almost missed his next words, enthralled by the sweet sunset in his eyes. Like caramel, or honey, or summer. All in one place. How? “Can I actually ask for a recommendation? This is my first time ordering here, and I’m not sure what sounds good.”

He hesitates for a moment before deciding it is too late to turn back. “Do you think, if we were to ever be separated for some reason, that we’d still be friends?”
Killua looks down at the grass below, praying what he asked wouldn’t be the wrong question. He knows his cheeks are painted a delicate scarlet and strays from glancing towards Gon, though he craves to see his reaction.
Gon hums softly for a moment before speaking up, voice appearing closer to Killua than before. “Killua, do you know I love you?”
Killua’s heart jumps to his throat in an instant and his neck nearly snaps in half from how fast he turns to face Gon, his entire face burning, ears tipped a rosy red. “You what?!”

"Are you okay?"
And suddenly his world stops spinning.
It happens every time, honestly. He's still not entirely used to the idea of someone caring for him enough to ask if he was okay. At the beginning of his training, when he was so young he could barely talk right, Illumi used to mention that he was proud and his mother used to rub his back when he would puke, but that quickly faded away. Kindness ran out faster than he had wished, and he was left with the emotionless void that was the Zoldyck family.
But Gon isn't like Killua, or the Zoldycks. He's full of emotion and empathy and compassion. He watches Killua with doe eyes, wins card games with grace, and pulls him closer on hard nights. He's everything Killua is not. Of course, if he were to ever dare utter such a sentence to Gon he'd never hear the end of it, so he settles for looking away when sometimes Gon's smile is just a little too bright and his eyes are filled with too much adoration.
"Huh? Yeah, I'm fine. Why do you ask?"
"Killua's lying."
