“Well, maybe you should drive next time, if you’re such an expert!” Mike whines, jabbing Will’s side with his index finger.
Will yelps and smacks Mike’s hand away. “As if you’d let me drive, or just lift a finger in general.”
“I let you do plenty of things!”
“That’s so kind of you. Thank you for letting me.” Will shakes his head, but he fails to hide the smile blooming on his face.
“Why, you are so very welcome, my liege.” Mike snickers, his nerves finally settling down now that they’re back to their usual squabbling. “I can be reasonable.”-or-
In exactly one week, Will Byers is leaving Hawkins for college.
Mike Wheeler is handling this development very normally.
Unfortunately, "very normally" apparently involves becoming physically incapable of spending more than five minutes away from Will at a time, aggressively avoiding any discussions of the future, and slowly failing to keep his hands to himself.
How long can he keep pretending everything's fine? -

Summary
Will can’t allow himself the luxury of a wet dream tonight, so he wills for Mike to stop moving.
Mike does not stop moving.
Will frowns, mustering up more focus, sharpening his control.
Mike still doesn’t stop, but he lets out an annoyed whine. “What’s fucking tugging at me right now?”
What.
“I’m—trying to stop you. Stop.” Will’s voice comes out warped and distant, unused to being spoken out loud in the dreamscape.
Mike stops moving, as instructed, breathing heavily against Will’s open mouth. “Why? Isn’t this—isn’t this just a dream? Come on.”
Huh?!
What is Will’s subconscious trying to achieve right now?—or—
Will's powers have been acting up lately, thanks to the stress of college and a part time job.
He finds solace in his usual lucid dreams. Except, suddenly — they get clearer. More vivid. More out of control.
Will assumes it's just his subconscious working through some very obvious problems.
Mike assumes he's just having weird sex dreams about his best friend because he's stressed and pent-up.Neither of them realizes they're sharing them.

Summary
“You okay?” Will quirks one of his eyebrows, then looks down to Mike’s hand. “Your popsicle is melting.”
Mike’s suddenly aware of the stickiness between his fingers as the liquid from the half-melted Jell-O Pop settles in the crevices of his hand. His brain feels completely blank, other than the image of Will looking utterly cock-drunk on a fucking popsicle, which takes center stage, pushing everything else out of the way.
Mike blinks rapidly, hoping to chase the image away, but it’s stuck there now, under his eyelids, under his skin, carved deeply into the fabric of his very being.
Fuck. He’s hard. Raging hard. He never gets hard. What is this?!

Summary
Mike sees this topic of conversation as an opportunity. Now is the time to strike and subtly pry information about Tammy out of Will. What for? Because Mike doesn’t like unanswered questions — there’s nothing more to it. Call it scientific curiosity. He’d persist in exactly the same way no matter the subject of research.
“Is that the only reason you're so happy though?” He inquires in a super casual, borderline disinterested tone. “I mean, being over that crush of yours… That must be a huge weight off your shoulders too, right?”
Will’s smile drops and his brows furrow ever so slightly.
“Um, yeah.” He murmurs, putting the straw back in his mouth and chewing on it, suddenly very interested in the paused TV screen.
A beat passes.
“It’s just,” Mike turns in the seat so that he’s facing Will now. “I guess we never got a chance to properly talk about it. I’m your best friend, and I didn’t even know you were in love with someone.”
In which Mike Wheeler is totally not obsessed with Tammy. Whoever that is. It's definitely not ruining his life.
The last thing he expects is for Robin to challenge his worldview. -

“We’ve all thought about exploring our best friend’s lips once or twice, don’t even sweat it,” Mike states as he lifts his head up and looks around the room, and before Will has time to process what the fuck Mike just said, he speaks again: “I’m bored. Come down to the basement with me? There’s, like, books and shit down there.”
Will is starting to get really tired of the way Mike has been sending his heart to run laps around his ribcage this evening. We’ve all thought— what the fuck? The cogs in his brain are not oiled nearly well enough to handle this revelation right now.
Graduation night was supposed to be simple: a small party, a couple of beers, and the usual dose of pining after Mike Wheeler.
Will only has two beers.
Mike, however, has a few more, and seemingly decides to lead Will into cardiac arrest with his sudden barrage of... flirting?
Add a tattoo choker and years of feelings Will thought were safely buried, and suddenly everything between them becomes impossible to ignore.Or
Post-canon Byler where Will is very, very unprepared for what Mike Wheeler does when he’s drunk, and what he says about it when he sobers up.

“Did you know?” he asked at the last moment, voice cracked and warbly from crying. He hadn’t sounded that young in years.
She hesitated for one painstaking moment, and at last replied, “No, Mike.”
She almost closed the door, but stopped again.
“I am sorry,” she whispered, remorse staining her voice, and quietly closed the door behind her.
Three days after graduation, Will disappeared in the dead of night with nothing but a note left in his absence, and Mike's heart left with him.
