Mira makes a face. One that Rumi would've struggled to decipher even if her vision wasn't so blurry.

In the immediate aftermath of Namsan tower, Rumi wakes up the following morning sick as a dog. Zoey and Mira help her through it, while also confronting their emotions and assumptions about the events of the last 24 hours.

Mira continued to stare at her shoes, but when her father didn’t speak for a long enough time, she chanced a small glance up at him. He wasn’t looking at her, he was looking at the dining table, warbled reflections of them both bouncing off the glossy dark-stained wood and reflecting back at them. His eyes were wide and wild looking, his nostrils flared. He was literally vibrating with anger, his hands both in fists at his sides. When he spoke next his voice was far from shouting, instead low and deadly, like a predator’s growl as it wound up to pounce.
“Meongcheonghan nyeon.”

Summary
It feels like being turned inside out, like every cell in her body is being torn apart and put back together wrong. The warehouse disappears into a blur of color and sound and then she's there, directly between Mira and the demon, close enough to see the surprise in Mira's eyes.
The demon's swing catches Rumi square in the ribs. She feels the impact, feels something crack deep inside, multiple somethings, bones splintering like dry wood, and then she's flying.

Or: Rumi would die a thousand times to keep her girls safe, and that's exactly what terrifies Mira most.

Don't worry - this is a long haul endeavor. Zoey is my favorite character because I relate to her the most and I LOVE writing some angst and hurt/comfort from her perspective - and I have tons of ideas for hurt/comfort oneshots involving her and Mira and Rumi and Bobby and our favorite comfort animals, Derpy and Sussie! I see Zoey and Mira and Rumi as friends/sisters - I suppose you can read many of my stories as Polytrix if you squint, but it's intended to be read like they're best friends navigating the complicated world of demon hunting and stardom with their adoptive father Bobby. “Zoey!” Mira calls out in alarm from somewhere nearby, not from anywhere visible. When had the mist gotten so terribly thick?
Zoey whirls around, slashing a smaller demon across its throat just as its claws stretched out for her side. “I got it!” She shouts back, tearing off after the slippery demon after getting momentarily sidetracked.
She thinks she hears Mira call out again, but she elects to briefly hold off returning to her side, focus zeroed in on the monster that somehow kept managing to slip away from her just as she got close. She’d find a way to pin it down and finish it off for good, and then she’d be right back, right back into her place within the girls’ reach. Easy as pie!
OR; a hunt goes awry when Zoey is attacked by a new, dangerous breed of demon, and Rumi and Mira are left struggling to face a sickness that seems far more sinister than what meets the eye.

Tears quickly bubbled to her eyes and slipped down her face before she could stop them, smearing the screen in front of her into an unintelligible mess and soaking into the fabric of Mira's shirt. She laughed again, but it came out as more of a sob this time, and she turned to stuff her face into the edge of the blanket with a sharp, hiccupped inhale.

The sentence trembled in the air between them, thin as glass. And then it shattered. Rumi couldn’t handle it.
