Mostly to reassure himself that he at least kind of knows whats going on with everyone that's trying to kill him. The sky was a fiery red, the rising dark gray smoke a solid contrast.
Donnie and his brother stood in front of the closing portal to the hidden city, ready to stay behind and guard against the threat. He was heavily injured with an almost useless leg but not willing to leave his brother behind.
“If one of us is going to survive,” his brother cut in out of nowhere, causing Donnie to look over with a pained grimace.
“I’d rather it be you,” his brother looked over a with a pained smile. Before he knows it, he is being thrown backwards into the portal. His brother looks at him over his shoulder before he turns around to fight off the approaching monsters. He can only scream as he watches; the scene playing out eerily like it had when Master Leonardo had thrown Casey Jr. into the time portal.
‘So, this is how it must have felt like.’

He just knows that what he's about to do will give his family the peace and happiness they deserve.
But he wants to be selfish one last time, so he says his goodbyes, even if the others don't realize it.
