Natsu, however notices something off with him and Laxus. He wants to investigate, while everyone else just wants to have a good time, but maybe Natsu's suspicions were correct, after all.

“S’that…? The collar’s a little much?” he muttered into his glass as he took another deep drink, feeling his entire body sway back with the motion and then laze forward again as he brought the glass down.
“In the goddamn way, is what it is,” Gajeel muttered and picked up the chain only to throw it on top of the counter. It was long, almost three feet in length. Even stranger, as Laxus studied it, because it was metal, and not a cheap plastic knock-off… which Laxus belatedly realized meant the collar was real and not a bargain accessory. His hazed mind took a moment to process, then, that Gajeel owned a studded, leather collar… and it fit. Why in the hell could Gajeel possibly need a studded, leather –
“Oohh…” he hummed the word out loud, not quite meaning to draw it out so conspiratorially, but not nearly sober enough to stop it. Gajeel glanced up at him again, eyes full of question and then quite suddenly suspicion at the grin creeping across Laxus’s face, “When were you into this shit, hm?”

Silversvale.
The name of the town conjured several illusions. A haven, a criminal cesspool, a waypoint, a backwater...but Impulse had been there, once or twice, and he thought the best word to describe it was pragmatic. It did away with a lot of what the rest of the continent saw as so commonplace. Not so much as to claim some brandishing flag of equality but...around here, was even was that? It's not like he cared. He was searching for those stone brick walls on the horizon for one reason, and one reason only..
Tango. His pyre brother. The one he was supposed to have protected all those years ago. Ten long years ago.
For Tango, well...he's just here with Zed because Zed said so, and wherever the master-smith went, so did he. It had been a peaceful existence, by comparison to his previous decade here on the old continent, where ever grain of sand held it's own kind of cruelty. Zed was seeking work. Skizz was seeking opportunity.
If any of the above was actually in Silversvale...well that remained to be seen.{In which Impulse takes a swing, Skizz takes a shot, Zed takes a hit, and Tango takes things exactly as they've always been.}

She opens the zoom call and waits for ES to enter the waiting room. She pauses at the name that does appear.
“Ethoslab (He/Him)” is what appears in the waiting room. It can only be ES, but she’s shocked that he would reveal his name so quickly into this process. She admits him to the call. When it connects, the first thing she notices is that he does not have his camera on. In it’s place is a profile picture of Kakashi from Naruto which she recognizes only from watching a few episodes with Joel once.

As far as trust went, the pendulum seemed to swing wildly with their oddball family. Some days, they’d be clamoring for attention; other days, they’d hide away in their room. After they’d begun school with Cleo, things had started to settle. Or, well, settle being the operative term. Pearl still occasionally would kick or punch at them on instinct when they came up behind her. Grian would be eager for attention one day and jumping at shadows the next. Jimmy, well, he seemed to be the most distressed on the regular. Timid, awkward, quiet...and with a chronic case of bad luck. Then Tango would arrive, without much warning, all flames and claws and poor, needy kid desperate for some kind of reassurance.
Sometime, well...it was just hard to tell if they were doing anything right. Thankfully, the little ones each had their owns ways of letting them know they were doing just fine.
(Five times Doc and Etho take care of their kids, and one time their kids take care of them)
{In which Doc and Etho don't have an under-city parenting manual, Pearl is the easy child, Grian gets a paint job, Jimmy just needs a little encouragement, and Tango still doesn't know what's going on.}

Summary
It was all quiet around the campfire. Martyn was mentally rehearsing some words he’d been thinking to himself for the past hour they’d been headed through the trees in near silence. Between Ren dragging him along, and Scott and the avian trailing behind them, they weren’t exactly in a social mood as they’d been fleeing that encounter with the paladins.
Which, all things considered, had gone about as well as they probably could’ve hoped. But it had also left him with this strange gathering. A runaway mer and avian could be a huge liability...or an asset, depending on how you spun it. Martyn was typically good at spin-doctoring, even in his own head. There was so much more to deal with, though.
Ren. Ren, Ren, Ren...Ren's smile, Ren's eyes, Ren's barely-there chuckle that, Martyn might be going crazy, but it sounded a touch louder, went on for a bit longer, than last time. A mer with an attitude, an overprotective avian, and...Ren. All of it was a lot...but Martyn didn't think he could claim they were unbearable.
{In which Ren is feeling light, Martyn is feeling light-headed, Jimmy is playing a connections game, and Scott forgot to mention that he's been in his underclothes this entire time.}
