Summary
In the usual telling, the story goes like this:
A young boy does a favour for a white snake spirit. Sometimes he's a cowherd, sometimes a child buying sweets, sometimes he's even a snake hunter. Either way, the white snake resolves to repay him. She gains powers and human form.
She saves a green snake spirit from death and gains her allegiance.
She finds the kind boy. Or maybe she finds his soul, in a new body. Thanks to the machinations of a monk, the boy finds out what she is and they are separated - in some tellings for a very long time - but finally reunited.
The green snake betrays the white snake. Or she saves her. Sometimes she saves them all, out of her love for the white snake.
That, at least, is almost always true.

Summary
There's a photo of the five of them as kids from the time before that Rodrigue keeps on his mantle. They're all in royal blue Fhirdiad kits. Black shorts that season, controversial because any hint of change is controversial in amber-frozen Fhirdiad.
Sylvain's not looking at the camera, too busy laughing at whatever terrible joke Glenn just told. It's much better than one of his usual fake smiles. Felix still remembers thinking that.
For once, Felix's smiling too, just a little. He's not looking at the camera either. He's only got eyes for Sylvain.
After an ill-advised summer fling with a childhood friend, Felix slowly finds his way back home.

Summary
Dedue had straightened without ever realising it, his back tense. Like this he towered over Claude, who had not grown an inch since their school days, and somehow still managed to fill a room with his presence, and who was wearing his easy smile again, evidently satisfied with whatever it was he saw in Dedue.
"Isn't there something you want still? If there is, come with me. If there isn't, then I'll leave you to whatever it is you're doing. I don't know as much as I want to about it all, but you want to reveal the truth of what happened to your people during the Calamity, don't you?"
Dedue survives Enbarr. Claude offers him another way forward.

Summary
Lorenz had seen Von Riegan play only a few times, and been vaguely annoyed by - the whole package, really. The ridiculous haircut, the earring, the cheeky flourishes, the showboating. The laughable bad boy reputation he'd already been saddled with by the tabloid press.
In person he was unfortunately magnetic, the kind of boy Lorenz would have furiously resented for existing before he figured out what that funny, stomach-twisting feeling actually meant.
Derdriu Football Club acquires a new captain, much to Lorenz's displeasure.

Summary
Leo's sitting with his head in his hands, and no one around him. It's how he prefers it when he's upset, but it's not always good for him, and in the old days someone who knew that would've gone up to him, put an arm around his shoulder. Made a joke.
And now - it's deathly quiet in the locker room. Just a whole heap of private misery, everyone in their own little spheres of it. Sergio catches Gerard's eye, inclines his head in Leo's direction. Gerard nods. The room empties out like magic.

The kind of convenient mishap that made it possible for the Academy to swell its ranks with promising young students, particularly the foreign Muggle-born who didn't know any better, or so it was sometimes said by the enemies of Johan Cruyff, Principal, former member of the Dutch Council of Warlocks, former member of the Catalan Grand Chamber, and current thorn in the side of the Ministry.
