“You didn’t get my coffee,” his dad says, halfway through his burrito. He has been in a state of low, simmering irritation all evening, and apparently this is how long it took for him to find a reason to blame Peter for it.
“You didn’t tell me to get coffee.”
“Do you have eyes?”
“Yes,” Peter says. “I have eyes.”
“So you could have checked if we needed coffee without me telling you every little thing, Jesus Christ.”

Right,” Tony muttered, clearing his throat. “So—”
“When am I going home?”
Sharp. No warm-up. Kid even left the earbuds in, music leaking loud enough to prove the point: not listening. Then he flopped onto the cushions with an undue hardness.
Tony swallowed the wince. “Wow. Okay. Straight to the big existential. You only just got here.”
Peter shrugged, gaze fixed somewhere past him. “Yeah. I know.”

Tony blinked, stunned at the rapid flood of words, only to soften into a smile at the pure excitement radiating out of the boy like sunshine.
“Is it true that you robbed a train singlehandedly last year?” Peter asked, voice reduced to an awed whisper.
“True as can be,” Tony chuckled.
“Will- will you tell me about it? About life out there on the run?”
And hell, how could the Iron Bandit say no to those curious, beaming eyes?

“You’re… you’re the Iron Bandit,” the stable boy breathed, half in awe and half in terror, which was entirely reasonable considering said outlaw was still aiming a gun to his chest with a calculating glare.
But seeming to find no danger in the scruffy, wild-haired child who couldn’t be older than twelve, the outlaw lowered his gun and leant back into the stack of hay he had found himself resting against for the past hour. He’d planned to take one of the horses and rendezvous back with his crew, the infamous Avengers, but that’s the thing about bank robberies. They tended to end in shootouts, which usually ended in a situation like this.
“Oh my god… you’re- you’re bleeding,” the boy suddenly stuttered as he realised the deep crimson blood that had pooled onto the stable floor beneath the outlaw’s leg.
The Iron Bandit huffed, dropping his head back against the hay as another wave of exhaustion rolled over him. “That’s usually what bullets do.”

Peter thought about Mr. Stark telling him to be responsible with his powers. Then he thought about Wade recruiting Double D to time how long it took his hand to heal after he stabbed it with a knife. And then he remembered Double D agreeing to it even though he couldn’t read the stopwatch.
Stupider things had been done, he decided, and it’s not like a little ghost hunting was going to hurt anyone.
“Sure,” he told Ned with a grin, “Let’s go catch a ghost.”
(The Spiderman trio and the Daredevil trio meet up to go ghost-hunting, it goes about as well as you'd expect.)

“You know what sucks, Pete?” Tony says, “Watchin’ a kid you’ve known since he was fifteen fading away in front of your very eyes.”
“Stop lookin’ then,” Peter says.
Just like Dr. Johnson, Tony can’t resist Peter’s innate charm. He looks away to hide his smirk and turns back once he’s gotten ahold of himself.
“You need social interaction; everyone’s saying you’re isolating. That’s not gonna fly and you know it, so here’s your choice,” he says. “The Torch or Osborn?”
“Osborn,” Peter says.
“You forgive like a saint, Mr. Parker.”
“Save it for confession, Mr. Stark.”
(Peter loses his powers and, having stretched the limits of his body for years as Spiderman, ends up trapped in a cycle of dying and being brought back to life by the dregs of his healing factor. He needs help, but he doesn't know who to turn to when everyone, everywhere seems to be trying to save him.)

He’s been trying to stay focused. He’s been trying to stay focused by keeping himself distracted. He’s been getting information from Rhodey about the stray new hero here and there, and there’s one Rhodey brought to him the other day that Tony has to follow up on, that 240p YouTube video the two of them watched together. What the hell was the name? He stood out, and if Tony was more clear-headed, he’d remember.
He’s searching for the information on a Thursday evening, and that’s when he gets the e-mail about the bed and breakfast. A bed and breakfast that sits on a plot of land that Obie was fighting to take from the owners thirty or so years back, and now, thirty or so years later, the new owners are contacting Tony to sell. Want to move on, the place is past its prime anyway.
And maybe ‘slightly haunted’.
“Slightly haunted,” Tony says, the next day, sitting across the table from Happy at the cafe in the tower. He takes a bite of his scone and tries to hide his keen interest.
