What about if it was like, a cool fire tornado that totally destroyed all the Darkners?A few small decisions lead to an entirely different outcome in the Cyber World. Ralsei knows this is a dangerous path to walk, but he can't say no to Kris. In other words, it's the weird route with Ralsei instead of Noelle.
It might seem familiar at first, but after making enough choices they can't take back, nobody can see where they came from, or where they're going.

Summary
Berdly doesn't understand where this sudden urge came from. It's usually just a territorial response when people get too close to his nest or his treasured trinkets, so why does he feel it when his rival is being mocked for things outside of their feeble control? This is terrible.
Kris hates that they feel like this. Why the hell do they have this urge to just… defend the dumb nerd bird from their class whenever they catch him being made fun of? Why do they want him close at all times?! This sucks.
Or, five times Kris and Berdly experience unexplainable compulsions that directly link to each other, and one time that culminates in a realization for both of them.

Berdly's back hit the floor with a dull thud that knocked the air from his lungs. Kris moved slowly, stepping closer, their shadow falling over him. Berdly rolled quickly onto his stomach, pushing up onto his hands and knees, trying to scramble away.
Kris dropped down fast. One hand closed around the thick base of Berdly’s tail where it met his spine, the other wrapping near the feathered tip trying to pull him back. The grip was firm, warm, and unexpected.
A broken whimper tore from Berdly’s throat before he could stop it. Heat flooded his face, rushing under his feathers in a deep, mortifying bloom.
"Oh, you like that, huh?”

Summary
As the official rival of the other, Berdly was expected to know a lot about the human. And he played that part spectacularly! What they found humorful, what got under their skin. Their favorite foods, and what they would refuse to eat. How they stood and how they walked. Their mains in Super Smashing Fighters, their favorite and least favorite biomes in Minecrap. Berdly could name any of it. He had to know it, if he wanted to fiercely compete and effectively irritate them.
And the way Kris was standing, completely straight rather than having a slouch. The way they stepped into the classroom, as if unfamiliar to using legs. How their neck turned and glanced around the room, as if they had never stepped foot in this room before in their life.
It was nothing like Kris.
Or: Berdly, somehow, puts together Kris' SOUL situation. And sort of figures out his feelings for the human in the process.

Kris finds Berdly interesting. Just as they do for every other monster. Theres nothing more to it. Maybe an extra visit on Wikipedia, sure, but never anything more. Especially not multiple days worth of birdwatching. But of course, a stupid blue feather ended up wrecking those plans.
OR
Kris dives too deep into bird culture. Finding out something that not even themself OR Berdly were quite ready to admit.
