“What the fuck—” Dan mutters to himself.
Something catches his eye when he walks further into the bathroom: on the floor, in front of one of the booths, is a phone. It’s laying on a piece of tissue paper, screen side up.
Dan furrows his brow and reaches down to grab it.
Dan’s heart drops to his stomach when he flips it over. The phone is purple and there’s a clear phone case over it. In the phone case there’s a picture of Dan in an orange jumper, looking diagonally up, and a long fish sticker floating freely in the space between the case and the phone.

The video loads up, and the quality is terrible. It’s in black and white for some reason, and it’s the grainiest video Ilya had seen since he last watched the home videos from his childhood. Even still, Ilya watches it like a man entranced. The man in the video looks about the same age as Ilya, with dark hair that falls over his forehead in a fringe that’s swept slightly to the side. He speaks slightly awkwardly, never making eye contact with the camera for more than a few seconds at a time. At one point in the video he holds a little toy up to the camera to show it off. Ilya realises that he hasn’t been paying attention to what's being said in the video and rewinds it to watch it from the beginning.
He sees the man reach back after starting the recording, “Hi everyone, my name is Shane and welcome to my video blog.”Ilya's childhood friend, and the only thing that makes life in Russia worth living, is leaving him for Canada. If he wants to follow her he needs to work on his English, so she suggests he take to the internet for help, which leads him to a Youtube channel run by a Canadian boy with the prettiest freckles he's ever seen.

There is one rule of content creation that every creator is subconsciously aware of. Never read anything written about you.
This is a rule Dan isn’t very fond of. Partially because he is kept awake every night with anxiety about what his fanbase thinks of him, partially because it turns him on reading about himself. Both of which are too loaded to unpack during the ungodly hours of the night. Tuck that away with the rest of his self deprecating feelings.
The main issue, though, was Phil. To Dan, Phil was this one perfect, precious thing in his life that he couldn’t risk ruining. He wouldn’t let anyone ruin their friendship no matter what that meant. Hell, he’d give up the career he had built if it meant preserving his sunlight.
Or, at least, that was the plan until Phil decided that takeaway and a full bottle of rosé needed to be split between the two of them and suggested that they read something the fans had written about them
OR
Dan and Phil have some feelings left unsaid. One night, they decide to read fan fiction about themselves and recreate it. Problem is, they're both a little too into it.

As the youngest Prince of his kingdom, Phil Lester didn't have much power or authority over the Water Weavers. His people liked him well enough due to his kind heart and willingness to help fight in the war against the Fire Lords, but that was about all he could do. He often felt that utilizing his power of creating and manipulating the element of water with his own hands was not enough, even with hundreds of others doing the same. War had continued to rage on for as long as anyone could remember.
The Fire Lords are lead by a fierce, tall, and terrifying masked leader, known only as The Luminary. No one saw his face. No one heard his real voice. His anonymity and mystery made him that much more terrifying. There had been many Luminaries over the centuries, but the current one was the most ruthless and terrifying yet, even recruiting witches into his court. He seemed to be made only of evil and flames, and would certainly not surrender his power any time soon.
When Phil finally comes up with an idea to end the war, effectively sacrificing himself, he will discover that there is something - or someone - else behind the Luminary's mask, and the war between the kingdoms...becomes a war between themselves.
