Summary
Randy almost doesn’t understand how it happened, even though he’s the one who started it. Three weeks ago he’d never had sex with anyone, never thought about doing it with a guy, didn’t think much about doing it at all. And maybe that means there’s something wrong with him, but he’s not stupid—he understands that Benson wants this from him. And if Randy can use that to keep them on track for a little while, maybe Benson will come back to himself. Will shake off the shock, and tell Randy what the plan is.

Summary
For the first few months after Derry, Richie had been barraging Eddie daily with the same kind of stupid shit he had as a kid, and Eddie had been responding. Richie’s life had been falling apart during this time, in the manner of a house that suddenly crumbled into dust years after termites had already hollowed out its foundation. But he and Eddie hadn’t talked about that.
They hadn’t talked about what was up with Eddie, either, which left Richie with few clues as to why when Eddie stopped responding. He had resorted to the obvious explanations, like Richie having made a joke about Eddie seeming sort of gay the first time they met after twenty years apart, or their having silently dry humped to mutual completion in the hammock once in high school, or Richie being generally a piece of shit, which was on its own a pretty good reason to terminate contact with him. That had been before Richie and Jess talked about what they were going to do in any terms more concrete than that they both hated what they had been doing. It was before Richie got to the place in Ensenada.

After staging at that place and hearing the way they talked about Carmy (fucking Carmen), Richie was pretty proud of him, maybe for the first time ever. Proud of himself, too. He kind of wanted to tell them. Yo, you like his food? I’ve been fooling around with him for like ten years. Fucked him in the ass once, too. He’s the James Beard of whining like a bitch when he nuts.

A lifetime ago, I slipped my leash and I went to New York. I navigated a hand truck with a tricky wheel around the circumference of the ballroom, careful and cautious so as not to jostle the champagne, and I helped the attendant unload the bottles and restock the bar. Only then did I look in your direction.

Summary
Trinity Santos turned to face him, and for a moment her expression was supremely awkward. Then she shoved that down, bottled it up, and looked him dead in the eye. “In my experience, I have managed to solve similar… situations through aggressive sex with no eye contact.”
Frank Langdon’s brain short circuited. He blinked. Blinked again. She was still there, not an apparition. Staring at him. Resigned. He choked out, “I’m sorry?”
She shrugged. “Just an idea.”
“Hate sex,” he clarified.
Again, she shrugged, turning now, eyes grazing anywhere but him.
He blew out a breath. What the fuck, he thought.
“Fine,” he said. Santos jerked to face him again. “But I’ll drive.”
