Arthur Nightingale thought he’d gotten used to the monster Entrati made of him—helminth armor skin, glowing eyes, sharper teeth, retractable claws, and the cursed rut that drove him into isolation every few months. What he hadn’t accounted for was Verden.
The Drifter was supposed to be just another teammate, another survivor clinging to life inside the ruined mall. But Arthur’s instincts didn’t see him that way. They snarled 'mine' every time Verden laughed with someone else, every time someone leaned too close.

Because Eternalism, there's at least one reality where Violet is Vermillion, a male drifter with not a spot of red on him -- all green from being stuck in the envy spiral and named by his counterpart Emerald (Emmy). 'Mill realizes later and laughs that his name is actually a shade of red which meant Emmy probably meant it as a joke. The irony is not lost on him.
