Yuuri stared at the man. He looked at their entwined hands—he hadn’t wanted to pull away—and their thighs, pressed together despite there being plenty of room in the backseat of the cab. That scent of Victor’s cologne—just a dab, lightly applied somewhere on his neck—swirled around him. This was too real to be a dream, too physical for him to have imagined it.
“I’m sorry,” Yuuri said slowly. “But…have we talked before?”

Detroit: Yuri’s done the math. He done the research and the consideration and the planning. This will be his last year of competitive figure skating, and this time next year, he’ll be moving on to grad school. No matter what, though, Yuri hopes to hold onto Victor in any way that he can. Even if he has to compromise and change his own dreams to do it.
St. Petersburg: Victor is tired of compromising. Tired of having dreams deferred, of stealing moments in the off season and after competitions to spend time with Yuri. The way he sees it, there are only two options: keep Yuri in competitive skating, or find a way to stay by Yuri’s side after this year is through. After falling into a magical lagoon during a once-in-a-lifetime eclipse, music students Viktor, Mila, and Yuri find themselves transforming into merfolk whenever they touch water... and considering that they live on the coast, that's probably going to cause some trouble. Things get even weirder when they discover strange powers that may have bigger effects on their daily lives than they could ever imagine.
Add to the mix a thalassophobic pianist, a marine biologist (possibly cryptozoologist) who might actually be completely insane, and a treasure-hunting Canadian... one thing's for sure: their lives sure just got a whole lot more interesting.

Summary
It's December, and 19 year old university student Victor Nikiforov is about to learn some lessons about life, as well as few new things about dancing.
On holiday at the family value's Catskills Ski Resort with his father, fresh out of a divorce, and his brother, always looking for a new love interest, Victor shows little interest in skiing. He instead discovers his own entertainment when he by chance ends up at a staff party, where the sensual dancing is in full swing. Mesmerized by the flow of the movements, so unlike the ballet he's been dancing for years, Victor can't follow his father's orders not to dance - especially when he's invited to do so by the resort's head dance instructor, Yuuri Katsuki.
Victor's dancing is about to change forever, as he's thrown into the deep end when he becomes Yuuri's partner for a high stakes dance competition, from which the prize money supports the dance crew after the winter season is over.
