“Still getting used to that. We should get up.”
They did, Armand returning to his own bedroom to dress. When they met in the kitchen, neither said a word about the broken ‘separate beds’ rule."

Graced, or cursed, with a mind gift- yet unaware of the slow unfolding of his decades long lies. Daniel can see him when he listens, can imagine his quirked up lips and sliding careful eyes, orange and alien like sunset on Mars. Meeting his own, piercing the plane of his forehead and digging around his brain unabashedly.

I cannot call this, all this wretched horror, love. Two lost, lonely creatures lying close, not to share the warmth but to fill the absence of it. This is not love. But who am I to tell these things how to? They cannot understand, only see its light spectre in the lives of others, and fail to recognize what they lack to see the truth of it.
I cannot call it love, but in their sick ways—manners only the abandoned and those still learning could ever feel—it is the only kind they know. I cannot fault them for trying.
