Zelda is well aware that her being a girl wasn't good news: a princess meant a cursed age was possible. When the Hero was found, it confirmed to most people that something would occur but for various reasons, all of them bad, doubt still lingered. As unjustified as that doubt was, it also encouraged hope: even those who knew better than to think this wasn't a cursed age had room and encouragement to hope for a mild one.
In the years since, every effort was made to preserve this glimmer of hope and avoid a mass panic. Further confirmations that terrible things were coming were kept hidden, including her own ability to summon light arrows.
But now that she's traveling with a hero who constantly has to contend with some people who believe him to be an imposter and a thief, she's second guessing the decision.Series
