"Basil?" Kel's eyes widened as his blond friend—soft, shy Basil—entered the room wearing the same uniform as the men who had brought him here and a gun strapped to his belt. The metal cuffs encasing his hands to the table rattled as he tried to stand up, the shock of meeting Basil, of all people, in a place like this making him forget his unfortunate current situation.
"Kel?" Basil said, his eyes widening as well as he took in the scene before him: a confused Kel, chained to a table by metal cuffs and with two armed agents standing behind him, guarding the 14 years old boy with the same scrutiny they would a war criminal. "What are you doing here?"

Back when words for men who were "effeminate" and "unmasculine" in the eyes of society were scarce, many sought to create their own by adding additional meanings to existing words. Thus, words that seemed to fit everyday vocabulary could also be used to describe strange and perhaps "queer" individuals. At least that's what Basil's grandmother said.
"Buttercup", "pansy", "daisy", and of course, "The Horticultural Lad". With many of these words spurring from botanical language, Basil became nervous. For what reason? He wasn't one of them... right? Those men who contract diseases and drop dead like flies months later? Those men who dress up, clad in obnoxious and flashy clothing, speaking in high-pitched voices while gesticulating dramatically?
All Basil did was tend to his flowers, his love of gardening having no correlation to which sex he harbored romantic feelings for. Such things are rubbish...

Basil woke up at the hospital to find Sunny confessing the truth to his friends. He hoped that it was over, that they could finally be happy again, but Sunny dropped off the face of the Earth. Now, it was up to Basil to handle the fallout and future.
Forgiveness would come slower from some than others, and the road ahead was long, but it was there—and Basil wouldn't be alone this time.
(A post-canon Basil-centric sunflower fic focused on a realistic depiction of the healing process, exploring the relationships within the friend group (mainly Basil's relationships), and ending my brainrot. I cannot exaggerate how terrible the first few chapters are compared to the later ones; please give this a chance lol.)
