Life is a series of contradictions.

Zuko fought against the Gaang when they tried to save Zuko from the blizzard in the North Pole. Finding himself lost in the tundra, Zuko fights with every breath before stumbling into a valley, hosting a massive, gnarled tree of dead roots in the center.
One month after the failed siege, from the frozen wastelands of the northern tundra, a new Avatar walks free. One who is of the dark rather than the light, of the push rather than the pull.
An Avatar of Chaos to combat that of Order.
Who are you, to take our balance and desecrate it?
A fool, one who has given the keys to their own downfall.

For 100 years, Chaos had been unable to find order. The balance broken, chaos spends the next 100 years waiting for a chance to fix this. This chance came when chaos discovered a weak newborn, and took its chance. The cycle begins as the cycle of order before it did: with fire.

Summary
In this Au there are two Avatars that work together to keep the world in balance and order, the Avatar of Peace, and the Avatar of Chaos, one fateful day the Avatar of Peace convinced the Avatar of Chaos to join him on a trip. The Avatar of Chaos did not know the Avatar of Peace was running away from his duties, the Chaos Avatar told his father and brother he would be back before dinner, but he never came back, and the Avatar of Peace vanished after the death of the Avatar of Chaos. Then the war came and a hundred years passed after the two Avatars had disappeared.

In the temple of her bed, the sheets are bathed in red.
The broken womb, the hoarse voice of a woman screaming.
But the scene is incomplete, for the night is rising high and the child may breathe, but refuses to cry.
She prays, hopeful and so very wrong, until the sun comes up to the sky's center and the child in her arms stops moving.
May any spirit aid my child, the woman screams out. May any creature take him in, make him its own!
And somehow, in her despair, she finds hope, in the sudden screeching of her firstborn son, as the shadows seem to fade away, to dissipate from the corners of the room.
The whispers of a miracle fill the air, as the boy opens eyes of molten gold.
In their hopeful nation they all sing his name, not quite managing to grasp their mistake.

Summary
Sailing near the North Pole at the summer solstice, a few months after his banishment, Zuko finds his way to the Tree of Time in the Spirit World where Vaatu is imprisoned. Vaatu promises to help him find Raava's Avatar if Zuko frees him... which he can only do by merging his spirit with Vaatu's, becoming an Avatar of chaos. But before Vaatu will tell him where Raava is, he says, Zuko must learn to bend the other elements, to become a match for the other Avatar.

When he was sealed up by Wan and Raava, he was determined to exact revenge on both of them and create Chaos in all the universes.
But with almost 80 years remaining until his release, Vaatu decides that it is time to live a simple life and not fight Raava anymore, that way, he will not be sealed for another ten thousand years.
This is how this spirit escapes from his seal and decides to enter the body of an omega of the Fire Nation, Zuko.

Betaed by h_faith_marrUrsa's son was born without the inner flame that every fire bender carried within themselves, and for that, her husband was going to have him killed. There was nothing she could do to stop him, as she clung to her child, and the man attempted to wrestle Zuko away from her. She was pleading with him to spare the child, but Ozai refused to budge. At least not until Fire Sage Shyu suggested that they pray to Agni to bless the child with bending. But Agni refused. Vaatu, however, didn't.
