“So hot and so unattainable,” lamented Peter, looking off into the distance with a dramatic, wistful sigh. “To think I’ll never get to sleep with you.”
Wade tilted his head thoughtfully. “I mean, you still could sleep with me.”
It took Peter a deeply confused couple of seconds to realize Wade wasn’t talking about sex anymore. Somehow, out of the two of them, Peter was the one with his mind in the gutter.
“What, like, literally sleep with you?” he asked in his own voice, an amused smile spreading across his face. “Just casually crash in your bed after patrol?”
It was kind of a cute mental image. He imagined himself curled up like a dog on the one side of Wade’s bed, staring into a phone screen until it fell out of his hand, with Wade sitting propped up against the headboard reading pulp novels by lamplight. He pictured both of them in the full suits, too, which made the idea seem even less sensible than it already did.
“It’s free real estate,” offered Wade, because Wade had never in his life done the sensible thing, and he wasn’t about to start now. “King bed, single tenant. Plenty of room for sleepy little spiders to stay the night.”

He’d been waiting for this for so long, and yet, now that he had it, he found himself terrified. These were words he’d never said out loud to anyone. And if he had to choose, of course it would have been Aziraphale he said them to. But also, having everything out in the open like this … He wanted to slither up into the branches of the tree and escape from the angel’s gaze.

If Aziraphale didn't want a relationship with him, well that was fine, really it was, Crowley could deal with that. He would mope, it's what he did. But he'd get over it, as he had in the past, and they'd continue on with their friendship as they always had.
He just ... needed some time. Because it was fine, but it also hurt, and he needed to sit with that alone.
'Alone' being the key word. Which can't exactly be accomplished by Aziraphale turning up at his doorstep with a fluffy blanket and ice cream and a horribly out-of-date VHS copy of The Princess Bride.
