After Merlin dies inexplicably while sleeping in Arthur's arms, the king is left cold, grief-stricken, and unprotected against his last remaining enemies. As the autumn leaves fall and the harvest begins, he must lean heavily on his friends and best knights for strength, feeling lost and lonely beyond anything he's ever experienced without his beloved sorcerer pattering at his side.

1500 years and counting. And Counting and counting and counting. No, Merlin was done waiting. Destiny would answer to him now. If he was fated to be the cause of Arthur’s death at Camlann then, then perhaps he was always meant to be the cause of his return now. Arthur can’t ignore him anymore, if he has to bring about the destruction of the world to do it, then that’s just what he’ll do.
A second chance, and a heavy prophecy… but Arthur’s not sure he can save Albion this time, not when it involves killing his closest friend.

Merlin decides he's been going about the situation with Morgana the wrong way. He can no longer wait for her attack. He needs a more direct approach.
And if that direct approach gets him out of Camelot for awhile, then so be it.
