When Arthur realizes his sister, Morgana, has gone missing, Lance introduces him to Merlin, in hopes that everything going wrong can become right once again. Merlin is reluctant at first but sometimes it's the things that scare us that are most important and destiny, of course, is not so easily avoided.

Arthur is relieved when Balinor the Dragonlord agrees to help, but dismayed when he refuses to come back to Camelot. Instead, Arthur is stuck waiting in the middle of nowhere while Balinor calls the dragon. To make matters worse, Arthur’s idiot manservant clearly has a massive crush on the guy: despite him being a grumpy, straggly, cave-dwelling sorcerer, who makes terrible cabbage pottage, Merlin hasn’t taken his eyes off him! Arthur will tolerate this nonsense for a couple of days, but only because he must save Camelot.

And be Gaius's apprentice in the healing rooms. And keep his magic tamped down enough to not have his head detached by way of axe, or skin removed, or burned to a blackened husk, or whatever else the glorious King decides is appropriate punishment for a sorcerer that day.

Summary
It has been some time since Uther's death and magic is still forbidden in the Kingdom of Camelot.
After Merlin is forced to use his magic to save Gwen's life within the castle's very walls, Arthur finds evidence to convict an innocent woman of sorcery.
Gwen finds out that Merlin was the one responsible for the act that saved her, and offers to support Merlin, along with Lancelot and Gaius, in coming up with a way to help the wrongfully accused from meeting an undesirable fate.

On his return from Cornwall, he comes across a young blonde girl attempting to hitch-hike along the motorway. Fearing for her safety, Merlin offers her a ride home.
Upon entering the small town of Cam-Lott, Merlin makes a lasting impression on Police Chief Arthur Pendranyl and starts a chain of events that have him seeing the inside of a jail cell more often than not. When he isn't being an errand-boy or stumbling upon strange trinkets in forest caves, Merlin slots into the small town life with ease. Between summer faire's, camping trips and hiking, Merlin almost forgets that no one in the town -except one -has left the towns perimeter.
Why has no one left? Why are his memories feeling hazier by the day? And why, oh why, is there a sword buried in a stone?
