Summary

The rain beat against the glass of the windows, filling the apartment with the strange yellow light of the storm. It was peaceful, the sound of the rain soporific as Merlin worked. He sat at their dining table, books and papers spread out across infront of him. He had been working since the morning, and with his headphones on he was lost to the world around him. He always worked best when it rained, when the world suddenly felt a whole lot less urban. He got so lost in his studies, sometimes it felt like he had been there, like he had lived through it all. Sometimes it was hard to disconnect, when he had first started his masters he’d been plagued by dreams, some he could have sworn felt like memories, but now they came and went, like some great wrong had been amended.

Father Arthur Pendragon walked down the decorated aisle of his church, grabbing at the holy texts left on the pews. Normally this would be the job of the altar boys, but alas, there weren't many of them anymore. Arthur could almost feel as the people of Somerset began drifting further and further from the word of God, apart from the forever loyal parishioners. Not that Arthur could blame them.
His thoughts are interrupted by a low voice with a thick Irish accent.
"It has been many years since I've stepped foot in a Church." The voice said, and as Arthur turned around, the books he held almost fell out of his grasp.
In front of him, stood the most beautiful man Arthur had ever laid eyes on.
His mouth was suddenly dry. -

When Merlin accidentally gets too drunk on Gawain's birthday his Irish accent comes out, confusing everyone who can understand him, and everyone who can't too.

"What did you say?" Percival asked him to repeat himself, and everyone quieted down to listen closer.
"I said I don't understand how Gawain can drink all day and night and none of you lot say a word about it, but the one time I get a bit tipsy, you look at me like I've grown a second head," Merlin repeated, his accent thick, and his voice much deeper than usual with an almost raspy sound.
There's a pause as they all stare at him until Gawain pipes up. "He said my name!"
"Yeah, I think we all caught that part, Gawain," Arthur muttered, keeping his eyes on Merlin. "What accent are you using?"
"What are you talking about?" Merlin asked.

Summary
After years of waiting and preparing for Arthur’s return, Leon has long since given up the idea of him ever returning. However, Merlin is yet to give up hope that Arthur will return. He must return. If not, why would fate play with his heart in such a way?
After seeing what Leon leads him to believe is an Arthur lookalike, Merlin comes to realise that maybe Leon was wrong. Maybe after thousands of years Arthur had returned to save Britain. Yet, Britains darkest hours are long since passed. Leading Merlin to question; Why would he return now? -

Merlin answers his phone.
“Anderson.”
“Is that what you’re going by nowadays?”
Merlin looks skyward and closes his eyes in a bid for the peace that eludes him so, huffing out a sigh.
“Lizard man,” he greets.
“Hello, young warlock.”
Merlin hums, scuffing his shoes against the dirt at the side of the ‘road’.
“’S’pose you want me to come home for Christmas?”
“Would it be so terrible?”
Merlin snorts. “Right, then, wha’d’you want?”
“I’ve found your Destiny.”

Merlin is immortal, even if his memory isn't. He gets flashes, brief impressions, but that's it. He knows Kilgarrah's been around the whole time, and every few decades or so he calls Merlin and tells him he's found his destiny. Merlin can never quite remember what it is, but he goes along, and this time that means partnering and protecting a prat of a detective from the supernatural threats that he doesn't realise he faces. -
