He only remembered brief flashes of life before being here.
Phil remembered crows landing on a windowsill in autumn, cawing at him through the glass. He remembered a fireplace, made of grey stone, alive and burning in the middle of a snowstorm. He could see, in his mind’s eye, a tiny house in the woods, covered in tiny blue flowers in the middle of a light, misty summer rainstorm.
But most of all, he could piece together the memory of a garden of roses. Their petals had all been white and red, shimmering in the sunlight, like spun glass. He remembered his own gentle hands caring for them, humming as he worked nearly every day to make them look perfect.
And he could remember watching those picture perfect, glass-like roses being shattered by heavy, dark boots that slammed up his front steps in the dead of night. Petals had littered the ground, torn up and stained with dirt.

Phil is an experiment in a laboratory, his mind manipulated by the scientists to keep him compliant. But after an experiment gone awry, he is introduced to Techno and slowly begins to regain his mind.
As a result, Phil and Techno are finally able to get revenge on the scientists who hurt them.

Down below, at the foot of the icy mountain and the snowy plains beyond, colourful fireworks light up the sky. He could hear their bright laughter and cheers, music playing loudly as they danced and sang together, their celebrations making a smile form on the emperor’s lips.He had joined them briefly, together with Pete and Techno, having launched a handful of fireworks when midnight hit. Phil had a few pleasant conversations, mingling with his people, sharing a glass of two with some. Presence was important if you want to have a good connection with the people you lead, especially if their people constantly get told two of their leaders are tyrannical anarchists that want to see the world burn.

And Techno doesn't understand how they are his family. Because even though they feel like family, they certainly don't look like family.

Phil is an Elytrian and can fly. Tommy is an Avian and will eventually learn how to fly. Techno has no idea why he doesn't have wings and why he couldn't be like his family.
