Once upon a time, in a land comforted by the northern winds, there were dragons.
There were so many dragons, and so many humans, that both sides were determined to triumph in a neverending war of them simply being each other's enemies.
There was also a human who was saved by a dragon, who learned to interpret their behavior, and who even lost dragons to the war between their species.
This human fled with two lone hatchlings.
One, among the last in a dwindling species.
The other, something that had never been before, and would never be again.
Or: I'm back on my HTTYD hyperfixation because the live action movie was awesome in my humble opinion. This is my own take on feral/raised by dragons Hiccup, lol, and I'm happily running with the opportunity to write a story with non-human culture and affectionate forehead taps.

To most of the Vikings, it was annoying - but on their honour and the blood of their ancestors, no one would admit to anything more than a sniffle. Even when the island was full of Vikings with flushed cheeks, a wet cough and fevers that never mixed well with ale and sharp objects. The seasonal illness would make its rounds, and take with it some of the very old, very young, and the frail.
It always seemed to try to take one Viking in particular, the village had deemed him frail since birth when he came into the world too soon and too small, but the illness never claimed Hiccup Haddock. Although, it tried. -
