rerandomized version of the events of the killing school trip on Jabberwock Island! I'm a big lover of Protag Mahiru, and this was largely inspired by a short comic I made on my tumblr (bronze-and-silver-keys)
A small piece of paper was floating along the surface of the water, growing darker as it began to sink into the depths. Mahiru dropped to her knees at the edge of the docks and shot her hand into the water to grab it, ignoring the sting of splinters on her knees.
Cradling it with both hands, she laid it out on the dock, careful to keep it from tearing. The ink was runny and hard to read, but there was a message written on the fragile paper:
‘The killing game will begin tonight.’
Mahiru’s blood ran cold, and the sudden gust of wind didn’t help the way her body shook at reading the message. She tried to shove down the panic building in her chest. This had to be some trick from Monokuma. He planted this to scare someone into making the first move. She wasn’t going to believe this. -

Shuichi Saihara was the very last thing they expected to rise out of the red exisal, and yet here he is, in the flesh, cradling the corpse of Kokichi Ouma.
Shuichi is alive.

Kiibo shakes his head and reaches to lay his hand over Kaede’s. He really doesn’t mind—but that doesn’t change the reality. There are obstacles no matter what path he wants to take, and thinking about it… He’s not even sure how he’d want to proceed. What would he study in college? What is he even good at or passionate about? In the killing game, with an internal voice always guiding him to the right decision—it was so easy to feel as if Kiibo could stand next to his friends and allies. People with full lives and ambitions. He was just like them.
He so clearly is not, in the real world. No backstory, no history of education. Just a general feeling of wrongness, the sense that he might not be able to leave the house again without being asked for a picture or an autograph, and those are the best case scenario. Kiibo sinks into the couch next to Kaede.
“...Let’s talk about something else,” Kiibo finally says, and shakes his head.

It wasn’t uncommon for Gonta to be restless during the night. His aches and pain would sometimes flare up at the worst moments, or perhaps it would come from his anxiety making it difficult to rest. He tries not to let it get so bad it makes Kaito worry (like that would stop him any), so he tries to keep it under control, limiting his moments out of bed to the bathroom or to find a drink.
But Kaito knows. He knows Gonta well enough at this point to sense when something’s not right. So when he turns to his other side to see him absent from both the bed and the bathroom. He takes that as a sign to go investigate.
