Honesty. That is the singular pursuit of this story. Truth, a thread drawn through the fabric of life, touching each of its cells and leaving an indelible mark upon the soul. That very thing which many fear to utter aloud, from which they hide in the secluded corners of their consciousness, mistakenly taking it for an enemy.
The celebration of life turns to falsehood when no kindred spirit can be found to share a sincere conversation. When there is no one who does not strive to remold you in their own image, to force a false smile upon you, to instill the absurd obligation to be happy. At times, events occur that leave a deep wound, and this by no means signifies that we are obliged to forcefully return to the former course, pretending as if nothing has happened. Every emotion deserves the right to exist, not only carefree joy. Only by accepting one's pain can one truly become alive.
(Be sure to read the chapter summary if you want to prepare for what's to come. In the fourth chapter the narrative will be turned 180 degrees, be prepared for this.)

Inspiration: I waited forever for Logan (while being so very torn about not choosing Owen instead). Ate up the former outlaw's romance quests, but then I was like... I should have married Owen a year ago (game time)... So I found a backup save from just over a year prior (game time) and decided to play from there to get with Owen instead. And that all just got me thinking, what else could the Builder change by going back in time if she wasn't bound by the game's script? And then I thought, what if she's not the only character who remembers the future? Spoilers for all the things.

Pen knew he was popular with the ladies, well, at least back home, just ask his fanclub! But no one in Sandrock seemed to show him much interest until the new builder, Lucy, showed up. One too many drinks had the builder all over Pen one late night at the Saloon and while Pen may have blood on his hands, he at least had the decency to ensure his partners were sober enough to consent.
However, when word gets back to Matilda, it becomes clear that the best way to keep the budding builder under a watchful eye would be to have Pen forge a relationship with her. He can distract and slow down her progress, and maybe she’d even be willing to join their side, or at the very least, not have the heart to fight against her beloved in the end.
It’s not like Pen could ever fall for his enemy, right?
