The quiet guard pushed in front of her before she could blink, his rifle aimed at the creature but without anything close to enough time to aim- It was too close. The wolf slammed into the guard, sprawling him onto his back as it fell on top of him. Zack moved in a blur a second later; a gust of wind whipped her hat from her head as something dark bisected the wolf; the creature collapsed and lay still. A flick of the enormous blade- Tifa glanced at the guard and stopped. Cloud Strife lay on the ground, frantically tugging his helmet back into place before he made any move to push the corpse weighing him down away. Somehow he missed the points on his chest where the wolf’s claws had drawn blood. "Hey SOLDIER?" Tifa called. "You want to keep going or should we get this guy some help?"
Cloud did not really want to return to his home with Zack but a chance moment when climbing Mount Nibel with Tifa changes everything.

Summary
Pizza delivery. This was now his life. Well part of his life. Part of his working life. Cloud scowled and sighed as he trudged through through Sector Five. Botching the SOLDIER recruitment had been disappointing enough, but managing to piss off the army recruitment officer had been a kick while he was down. And with his goal now impossible and without even the vague promise of enlisting in the army and re-applying to SOLDIER later, he had little left to aspire to.
Cloud rapped on the door and waited. He glanced up as the door opened and forgot what he was going to say. A girl - about his age - stood framed in the doorway. She was wearing a pink summer dress, her eyes a bright green. Her cheeks looked flushed, stray wisps of hair escaping a braid topped off with a pink ribbon. She had a streak of mud on her nose. On her cheeks. More across the bodice of her dress and right down onto the skirt. "Pizza!" she exclaimed, her gaze dropping to the box Cloud held. "How much?"

"Isn't it remarkable, Aeris?" The voice was gentle, warm but tinged with sadness. "This world is full of so many possibilities. Each living thing has an entirely unique experience. Another rattle and the image whirled now pointed in the opposite direction. A women with long, brown hair and a red dress stared out of the screen. "Aeris; we can't both exist. I'm going to become half of you. And I need you to know that every moment you love being yourself; that's me loving you and loving being you. Because you're going to be something extraordinary. You're going to be a human being. Take care of them, Aeris." The woman smiled and the rattling came again as the view skewed and then vanished into static.
As they traveled the Planet, dancing brought them closer.

The intruder frowned, tilting her head to one side in confusion. "I am a Cat Master. Not a duck master."
"Just checking," Yuffie said, staring around the room. "Cats like that one right there, yeah?"
The stranger looked in the direction Yuffie pointed. A tiny tortoiseshell cat peered out from under the stairs.
"Yes," Minette said, wriggling her fingers at the kitten.
There's an intruder in the cat house in Wutai. Yuffie stalls Avalanche's return to the Eastern Continent to investigate and as a result gains more power than she ever dreamed of.

"Do you... Do you want to sleep with me. I mean," she broke off in a panic. "Do you want to sleep beside me and we can keep each other warm?"

"Aeris? Would you- Um. I thought-. Would you like to go on a date?" The question came out blurted and he felt his face redden.
Aeris smirked. "Hardly the best time or location is it? Missing something perhaps?"
Cloud reddened further, coughing to hide his body's reaction. "No," he spoke with a strangled tone. "I just thought you might like to. It's the first chance we've had to slow down since the Gold Saucer. And I want to spend some time with you. Just the two of us."
Aeris smiled. "That does sound appealing. But you do remember what this date is not going to involve, right?" Cloud nodded. "Good." Aeris's gaze roamed around the inn for a moment before returning to Cloud. "I have a great idea. Let's get the rooms sorted and meet out front in about an hour."
At Icicle Inn Aeris takes Cloud on their first date.

Aeris leaned into him and for a heart-stopping moment Cloud thought she was going to kiss him. The moment passed and instead her lips drew level with his ear; he felt an odd mixture of relief and disappointment. She was so close he could smell her; the scent of dirt and flowers clung to her skin.
"It's a shame Mom is in this evening," she said, just above a whisper. "Otherwise we could have had some fun together. If you'd like... Cloud." Warm breath tickled his ear, his blood pulsed and he hardened as his mind scrambled to parse the words. He tried to discern if she was implying what his snap interpretation indicated. He turned his head and her gaze slid to meet his, her smile quirking a little more. "Maybe if you slept in a bit in the morning, after Mom goes to work... Well, then we could see about relaxing a bit before we get you back to your friends."

Rain fell all around him. How long had it been raining now? Would it be enough to put out the fires? Probably not; the rain felt too weak to dampen the raging inferno. Nibelheim was burning. His mother, he had to save his mother. Except it was already too late. Why hadn't the rain come sooner? What good was the rain now? What good was he? He was holding something. His vision was blurry, the world swimming around him. Where was he?
Cloud comes out of his mako poisoning when he meets someone from his past.
