This is my take on Mulder and Scully's interactions post-Redux. There's angst, UST, Skinner and a scene with a baseball, though no bat, sadly.
"At some point he gave her his key, they became one another's emergency contacts, and it became acceptable to call past any version of a polite cut-off time. She knows the error of this easy slide, and its forking problems, the way it gives her a sense of entitlement, and the disinterested and in-denial possessiveness it creates in him. She remembers thinking of talking about this to a friend - if she still had friends with whom she could discuss such things - and of saying how hard this all is. But she knows the lie in that; this is the easiest thing; this is the only thing that she knows how to do, that she can do."

She shakes her head, knowing how genuinely he means it, knowing full well he’d do anything she asks. But she can’t ask him for anything. She’s too proud. Too afraid. Besides, she thinks, there is nothing she can ask for. And, she decides, she can’t sit here anymore with his eyes on her, just feeling like she’s going to collapse into him. So, rising to her feet and walking to her bathroom, Scully runs a washcloth under warm water and puts it to her neck. Pain shoots down her body like lightning and she winces, half wondering if she might always feel this way

Summary
Now the air was too thick between them. She wanted to believe him, she almost did. So clearly she could see them in a house deep in the Pennsylvania countryside. Perhaps she would work at the county hospital and he would stay home — be an amateur farmer maybe? She could see him talking to a little girl with her hair and his eyes, he’d whisper her stories of their adventures in the ways he’d tell her about a case — so quiet — so gentle — so eager to make her believe it. Then she remembered where they were, felt the thin hospital gown stick to her bones, and how her cheeks had thinned. She thought of the cancer lodged in her sinuses and how it was rapidly spreading throughout her body and it was then the mirage disappeared.
“Mulder,” she whispered, finishing her turn until they were face to face.
“Don’t,” he said, “Just believe, just a little longer, then you’ll see.”
