    It did happen more often after that.

    Not so much that they were alone all the time, but just enough times for it to be noticeable. Days where their father just couldn't seem to get up or react to any of them, leaving Raph in charge instead. Only the times after the first one, he made sure to let his sons see his face at least once. Having a cuddle with them in his bed, even if he didn't seem like himself. Always having small snacks prepared in the fridge just in case, so that they wouldn't struggle to come up with food again.

    The turtles had learned to call them quiet days.

Whatever was going on, snapping at Mikey would only make him retreat and while yes, Raph wanted to just go back to sleep already, he wasn’t quite enough of an asshole to send his brother away when he was acting like that.

    Despite the way his body protested, Raph pushed himself up into a sitting position. "What happened?"

    A weird pause. It did not help the racehorse of panic, Raph struggling out of the blanket someone laid over him to sit up and stare wide eyed at the shape of his own feet. Then a stranger's voice said, intensifying the sharp alarm, "Hi, sorry, this is actually his coworker, Jacob. You're his older brother, right?"
