The air had the bite of a coming winter, and the fallen leaves were thick with the dew of a melting frost as she hung still and patient in the branches of a tree, a rope harness tied around her waist, hips, and thighs tethering her to the trunk in two places, feet on a branch, her bow held easily in one hand, an arrow nocked and held in the arrow rest, ready to draw.
As the codex entry says, Lavellan became a hunter at a young age, growing into a respected protector and provider.
It had been the journey of years, as her Huntmaster had told her, she felt strong, centered, confident, and all the peace and confidence in her skill as a mature hunter and in herself had been put into her vallaslin.

She begins to lose pieces of herself as she flounders to be what the faithful of Andraste need, and the simple Dalish hunter begins to fade away. Enter The Iron Bull, who has an uncanny talent for picking up her pieces and returning them stronger than they were. He reminds her that she’s a real person, not just a name that her men invoke before marching to their deaths.
The Iron Bull was sent to the south to gather intel on the magical anomalies ravaging Thedas. His directive: report to the Ben-Hassrath back home, and snuff out magical threats, including this so-called “Herald of Andraste”. However, the way he comes to care for her begins to split him in two. On one half: Hissrad, the loyal Ben-Hassrath agent. On the other: The Iron Bull, carving his own path.

Guilt was never going to taint this, the one thing to keep her sane while she was bent and crushed into an acceptable shape every day. Hide your wild ways from the nobility, humour the allies who want your affections, be some shining light for the Dalish. Every part of her was sized up, dissected, then whittled down to the smile on her face and the anchor burning like coal in her hand. It pulsed now, bleeding sickly green and hot through his shirt. She almost wanted it to tear, break that mask of ice so he hurt like she did.
